摘要: A holder for clamping in place a catheter or other hollow tube, such as a urinary catheter tube, a nasogastric tube or intravenous tube on a patient's body, which holder includes a pliant adhesive-bearing base which is adhered to the patient's skin. The holder is adjustable so as to be capable of holding the catheter tube against rotary and longitudinal movement, and also be capable of partially or completely closing the bore of the catheter tube by deforming the tube wall.

摘要: A device for use in checking and/or calibrating the accuracy with which a blood constituent concentration measuring instrument is operating. The device includes a capillary tube size member having annular bands marked on its outer surface. The bands are of predetermined axial extent and simulate centrifuged blood cell or other constituent layers. The axial dimension of each band is measured on the instrument which provides a visual indication of corresponding blood cell count. The blood cell count indicated by the instrument is then compared to the known blood count corresponding to the predetermined axial extent of the particular band measured. This device may be used to calibrate the instrument or determine the accuracy with which the instrument is operating.

摘要: An apparatus for analyzing biologic fluid is provided that includes first and second planar members, and at least three separators. At least one of the first planar member and second planar member is transparent. The separators are disposed between the planar members, and each individually has a height. The separators collectively having a mean height, and separate the planar members to form a chamber having a height extending between the planar members. At least one of the first planar member, second planar member, or separators is sufficiently deformable when the first planar member and second planar member are drawn toward each other by capillary force from a biologic fluid quiescently residing within the chamber to cause the mean chamber height to be substantially equal to the mean height of the separators.

摘要: A cartridge for analyzing a biologic fluid sample is provided that includes a base plate, a sample inlet port, a first chamber wall, a second chamber wall, and an optically transparent cover panel disposed in contact with the first and second chamber walls. The base plate has a body with a chamber surface, a body passage, and a chamber entry passage. The body passage is in fluid communication with the chamber entry passage, and the chamber entry passage extends through to the chamber surface. The sample inlet port has an inlet passage in fluid communication with the body passage. The first and second chamber walls each have a height extending outwardly from the chamber surface, and the two walls are spaced apart from one another. The cover panel is sufficiently flexible to deflect and contact a central region of the chamber surface.

摘要: A biologic fluid sample transfer device and method is provided. The device includes an outer casing and a lance. The outer casing has a tip with an exterior surface and a bore extending lengthwise through the tip and out to the exterior surface of the tip to form an aperture in the exterior surface. The lance has a length extending between an operating end and a sample end. The lance includes a seal segment contiguous with the sample end. The seal segment extends a distance lengthwise and has a constant cross-sectional geometry. The transfer device is selectively disposable in an empty volume position and a sample volume position by relative lengthwise movement between the outer casing and the lance. In the empty volume position, the sample end extends outside of the aperture. In the sample volume position, the sample end of the lance is disposed within the bore a distance away from the aperture. The seal segment of the lance forms an interference fit with the bore, which interference fit is operable to create a seal between the seal segment and the bore.

摘要: Centrifuged material layer volumes are measured and quantified during centrifugation of the material layers contained in a sample tube in a centrifuge assembly, which sample tube is disposed on a centrifuge platen. The material layers in the sample tube are periodically illuminated during centrifugation by a pulsed light source which differentially excites one or more fluorescent dyes or stains which are admixed with the sample being analyzed. This kinetic procedure is particularly useful in performing differential blood cell and platelet counts. A fluorscent target reference device is positioned on the centrifuge platen along with a detectable platen position sensor. The centrifuge assembly includes a processor controller which receives information from the platen position sensor, and from the target reference device, and which controls operation of the light source.
