    Abstract: An induction system for use in a V-shaped engine having a forward bank and a rearward bank each provided with a row of cylinders, the induction system includes intake runners individually extending from the cylinders of each bank, the intake runners being convergedly connected at upstream end portions respectively. To upstream ends of thus converged connection portions are connected common intake passages, which are connected to a junction portion at a further upstream side, whereby the respective common intake passages are connected. The lengths of the intake runners from the cylinders up to a center of the converged connection portion are set equal to one another. The respective converged connection portions are arranged vertically above the rearward bank. A communicating passage is provided for communicating the center portions of the respective converged connection portions with each other. In the communicating passage is provided a valve for opening or closing the communicating passage according to an engine speed. In this induction system, the dynamic effects of induction can be efficiently utilized in a wide range of engine speed in a relatively simplified construction. In addition, an intake manifold can be arranged in such a manner as to make the size of the engine smaller.

    Abstract: A marine engine (18) is provide with a multi section injection molded thermoplastic air box (24) directing air to the fuel system's air intake throat (22) and silencing engine noise emitted back through the throat. The air box has a cover section (28) and a base section (26) mounted to each other solely by a seal (30) along a peripheral seam around the entire perimeter thereof, to prevent fuel leaks. The housing sections are preassembled to each other prior to mounting to the air intake throat. A removeable plug (70) in the cover section allows access through the cover section to bolts (56, 58) mounting the base section to the throat. Access is also enabled to a fuel adjustment screw (74) to enable adjustment, with the air box fully assembled and mounted in place on the throat, to enable adjustment under actual operating conditions. Air guide passages (32, 34) and an air plenum chamber (36) are all molded in place.

    Abstract: A manifold for an internal combustion engine comprises a plurality of body parts each formed as an integral casting by pressure casting. A first body part has a mounting flange for the manifold, a plurality of open channels communicating with respective apertures in the mounting flange, and a water chamber communicating with a port in the flange and a further port in the first body part. A second body part overlies the channels so that the first and second body parts define a plurality of gas conduits effecting communication between the apertures and a common orifice. The first and second parts are sealed together along opposed side faces adjacent their outer peripheral edges. The seal along opposing sides allows access to the joints from the exterior of the assembly, permitting connection by electron beam welding or an adhesive, since all the joints are located on the exterior of the assembly a smoother interior surface is preserved and visual inspection of each joint is possible as it is made.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a structure for preventing freezing of moisture contents within a blow-by gas in an intake manifold, capable of preventing the blow-by gas introduced into the manifold from freezing even under a low temperature environment. The structure includes a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) channel into which the blow-by gas is introduced, an insulating member having a first side and a second side that communicate with each other and inserted into the PCV channel, and a PCV nipple having a first end and a second end that communicate with each other and inserted into the insulating member to guide the blow-by gas. The insulating member includes an outer peripheral surface in contact with an inner peripheral surface of the PCV channel and an inner peripheral surface in contact with an outer peripheral surface of the PCV nipple to surround the peripheral surface of the PCV nipple.
