A plant material targeting apparatus includes a light source platform and a light source coupled to the light source platform. The light source is configured to provide a high-intensity light. The apparatus also includes a light transmitter coupled to the light source. The light transmitter is configured to transmit the high-intensity light to a light redirector. In addition, the apparatus includes a light redirection platform separate from the light source platform. The light redirector is coupled to the light redirection platform. The light redirector is configured to receive the high-intensity light from the light transmitter and redirect the high-intensity light toward a plant material target to damage the plant material target. The apparatus further includes a control system that is configured to receive information representative of the location of the plant material target. The control system is also configured to provide a control signal to the light redirector to cause redirection of the high-intensity light to the plant material target.

Devices and methods for competency training and use authorization for dispensing an agent are described, which include: an agent-dispensing device including a reservoir configured to store agents, a controllable agent-dispensing mechanism in communication with the reservoir, a locking mechanism coupled to the controllable agent-dispensing mechanism, a microprocessor including circuitry, use sensors to monitor at least one operational step for use of the agent-dispensing device, training circuitry configured to train the user and to assign a value for each of the monitored at least one operational step for use of the agent-dispensing device, verification circuitry configured to determine if the assigned value for each of the monitored at least one operational step for use of the agent-dispensing device meets or exceeds a pre-defined performance threshold, and activation circuitry responsive to the verification circuitry and configured to deactivate the locking mechanism to allow dispensing of agents if the assigned value meets or exceeds the pre-defined performance threshold.

Embodiments of artificial joint prosthesis include those with: a bone-facing surface of a artificial joint prosthesis, the bone-facing surface configured to face a bone-prosthesis interface in vivo; a non-contact surface of the artificial joint prosthesis; and at least one fluid deflection structure positioned on the non-contact surface, the fluid deflection structure positioned to deflect synovial fluid away from the bone-prosthesis interface in vivo.

According to various embodiments, a mobile device continuously and/or automatically scans a user environment for tags containing non-human-readable data. The mobile device may continuously and/or automatically scan the environment for tags without being specifically directed at a particular tag. The mobile device may be adapted to scan for audio tags, radio frequency tags, and/or image tags. The mobile device may be configured to scan for and identify tags within the user environment that satisfy a user preference. The mobile device may perform an action in response to identifying a tag that satisfies a user preference. The mobile device may be configured to scan for a wide variety of tags, including tags in the form of quick response codes, steganographic content, audio watermarks, audio outside of a human audible range, radio frequency identification tags, long wavelength identification tags, near field communication tags, and/or a Memory Spot device.

Systems and methods are described for controlling acquisition of sensor information, including: one or more condition sensors, one or more physiological sensors, and a computing device including a processor programmed to query the condition sensors to initiate measurement of one or more conditions of an individual relative to the one or more physiological sensors; receive a set of condition sensor values from the condition sensors; assign a predictive value to the set of condition sensors values; query at least one of the one or more physiological sensors to measure one or more physiological parameters of the individual if the assigned predictive value of the set of condition sensor values meets or exceeds a minimum predictive value threshold; and re-query at least one of the one or more condition sensors if the assigned predictive value of the set of condition sensors fails to meet or exceed the minimum predictive value threshold.
