There is described a recyclable carpet floor covering comprising a backing, a tied-in pile yarn and a back finish with or without a secondary backing adhered to the (primary) backing, wherein the pile yarn, the (primary) backing and a secondary backing comprise polyester fibers and the back finish for the (primary) backing and for adhering a secondary backing comprises a consolidating and adhering composition comprising a combination of 10-70% by weight of a water-soluble or -dispersible first polyester A, and 90-30% by weight of a water-insoluble second polyester B, There are further described a process for producing the recyclable carpet floor covering and also an aqueous preparation of the consolidating and adhering composition comprising the polyesters A and B and the use thereof for consolidating the carpet floor coverings and optionally adhering them to secondary backings.

A sound insulating structure is provided which is made by foam-backing a carpet in a single operation and which includes a consolidated layer with few or no cells followed by a cellular soft elastic layer. To this end structured materials such as fleece and/or cut foam into which foaming takes place in order to form the consolidated layer, are provided on the back of the carpet or of a foam-proof covering thereon.

Carpet, or carpet tile having a tough resilient backing may be prepared by incorporating a fleece (6) into a foam backing on a carpet. The foam (5) is applied to the back of a carpet and the fleece (6) is overlaid and the foam and fleece are crushed together and gelled preferably using a drum laminator (10) then dried in a conventional oven (13). The resulting carpet may be cut into carpet tiles. The carpet or tile has lay flat properties and good abrasion resistance.

Disclosed is a carpet having a base fabric, pile yarns tufted to the base fabric and a backing layer covering a back surface of the base fabric. The light resistance of the dyed carpet and the anti-deteriorative properties of the pile yarns can be improved by covering portions of the pile yarns which extend into the backing layer with a resinous material containing finely divided carbon black.

A floor mat comprising: a hydrophilic flocking adhesive, flock fibers, a thin primary backing selected from nonwoven, woven and polymeric film substrates, a laminating adhesive and a foam secondary backing. The flock fibers are bonded to the primary backing with the hydrophilic flocking adhesive. The primary backing is laminated to the foam secondary backing with the laminating adhesive. The hydrophilic flocking adhesive improves the wet soil absorbency of the mat.

Provided is a carpet tile produced by using as a backing material a mixture which contains a solvent deasphalted asphalt and a copolymer of an olefin and a polar monomer, or a mixture which contains an amorphous polyolefin in addition to the above components. After applying the mixture as a hot melt to the back of carpet material, the backed carpet material is cooled and then cut or punched to produce the carpet tile.

Use of vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer emulsions as laminating adhesives for rug backing is disclosed. The copolymer emulsions are prepared by admixing vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer, dispersant and thickening agent together, with or without the addition of filler. The vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer can contain between about 20 and about 70 parts by weight of vinyl acetate and between about 30 and about 80 parts by weight of ethylene. The resulting vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer emulsions have a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) of between about -35.degree. C. and about -10.degree. C.

Abstract:
A tufted pile fabric for use indoors or outdoors as a substantially permanent floor covering. The tufted pile fabric is made entirely from man-made or synthetic materials and includes a synthetic plastic primary backing, and a synthetic plastic secondary backing, laminated together by a hot melt adhesive to form a relatively rigid impervious sheet. The structure is then provided with a plurality of perforations through the substantially impervious sheet comprising the secondary backing, the hot melt adhesive and the primary backing to give the fabric a softer hand and breathability. The tufted pile fabric may then be adhesively secured to a floor structure by a water based adhesive, inert to the primary and secondary backings and hot melt adhesive, with the water evaporating through the perforations to set the adhesive and thereby avoid puckers and edge rippling due to unbonding the pile fabric from the floor structure.

THE BACKING SERVES TO PROVIDE DIMENSIONAL STABILITY TO THE SOD AGAINST TEMPERATURE CHANGES. ADDITIONALLY, THE UNDER SIDE OF THE MATRIX MAY HAVE A POROUS, FIBROUS, SYNTHETIC FIBRIC BONDED THERETO THROUGH THE OPENINGS IN THE METALLIC SCREEN. THE FABRIC SERVES TO PREVENT WEED GROWTH AND EROSION.
