Abstract:
As an absorbent for chlorine, heavy metals or heavy metallic compounds, a resin prepared by reacting polyisocyanate with at least one compound selected from the group consisting of polyols and functional monomers which have at least 2 active hydrogen atoms and at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of ##EQU1## >NH and --N=, such that the ratio of the total active hydrogen atom number in the polyol and functional monomer to the total isocyanate group number in the polyisocyanate is 0.8 to 5.0.
Abstract:
A polymeric compound having thiuram mono- or poly-sulfide linkage shows noteworthy property for removing and collecting heavy metals from the environment. Especially, said compound can remove mercury, in any form, from the environment effectively. On the other hand, said compound shows ability to selectively recover some kinds of heavy metals by the selection of appropriate conditions.
Abstract:
Process for the preparation of pure aromatic o-hydroxy-carboxylic acid aryl amides by condensing an aromatic o-hydroxy-carboxylic acid with an aryl amine in the presence of phosphorus chlorides in an organic solvent or diluent, which process comprises treating the reaction mixture or the reaction product with 1 to 25 %, calculated on the weight of the reaction product, of an aliphatic amino-polycarboxylic acid as chelate forming agent. It is not necessary to purify the products, because they are obtained in such a pure form that they can be used directly as coupling components for azo pigments.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an improved method of producing a catalyst for the production of vinyl fluoride. This invention comprises incorporating activated carbon, which has been activated with nitric acid and subsequently washed so as to remove the acid with a mercuric compound or a cadmium compound, or a mixture of a mercuric compound and a compound consisting of chloride, fluoride, sulphate, nitrate, oxide or hydroxide of lead, tin, cadmium or zinc, and pre-treating the resultant material at a temperature of 30* to 300*C with hydrogen fluoride gas.
Abstract:
Reusable composite comprising a chelating agent chemically coupled to an essentially insoluble inorganic carrier by means of an intermediate silane coupling agent. The chelating agent is bonded to the silane coupling agent by means of an azo linkage. Methods of preparing and using the composite are disclosed.
Abstract:
in which X, Y and Z stand for a hydrogen and/or halogen atom with the proviso that at least one of the X, Y and Z substituents stands for a halogen atom, R stands for a carboxyhalide radical, a carboxylic group, ester group, nitrile group or anhydride group, and the mole fraction m stands for a number greater than zero and smaller than 1.
The invention provides novel oligomers and/or polymers containing carboxylic and hydroxylic groups - the latter groups being partially lactonized, if desired - and a predominant proportion of C-C bonds in their principal chain. The oligomers and/or polymers are produced by hydrolyzing halogenated copolymers which have substantially between 5 and 60 weight % of halogen therein and a principal chain based on structural units, in any desirable sequential arrangement, of the following general formulae I and II or I and III
Abstract:
Water-insoluble, cross-linked sequestering resins formed by reaction with chloroacetic acid and cross-linking of melamine. The active sequestering group on the resin is -NCH2COOH or salt thereof. A process for removing polyvalent ions from water with such a resin is provided.

Abstract:
SOLID LINEAR OR CROSS-LINKED HYDROXYCARBOXYLIC ACID POLYMERS WHICH IN THE MAIN CHAIN HAVE PREDOMINANTLY CARBON-TO-CARBON BONDS, ALL, OR THE MAJOR PART OF THE UNITS IN THE MAIN CHAIN, HAVING THE FORMULA
-CH2-C(-R1)(-COO-A)-, AND -CH2-C(-R)(-CH2-OH)-, OR
-CH2-CH-OH
WHEREIN R AND R'' ARE THE SAME OR DIFFERENT AND ARE ALKYL HAVING 1 TO 6 CARBON ATOMS OR HYDROGEN AND WHEREIN R1 MAY ALSO BE HALOGEN. IN ADDITION, THERE MAY BE A MINOR AMOUNT, RELATIVE TO THE NUMBER OF THE UNITS (I), (II) AND (III), OF UNITS OF THE FORMULA
-C(-R)(-COO-A)-C(-R)(-COO-A)-
WHEREIN A IS HYDROGEN, ONE VALENCE OF A MONOVALENT OR A POLYVALENT METAL OF AMMONIUM. ALL OF THESE UNITS ARE ARRANGED IN RANDOM SEQUENCE AND THEIR NUMBE IS SUCH THAT THE RATIO OF CARBOXYL OR CARBOXYLATE OT HYDROXYL GROUPS IS BETWEEN 1.1 AND 16. THE MINIMUM DEGREE OF POLYMERIZATION IS 3; PREFERABLY, IT IS NOT ABOVE 5000, AND PARTICULARLY BETWEEN 3 AND 600. THE POLYMERS ARE VALUABLE AS COMPLEXING AGENTS.

MIXTURES OF TRIS(HYDROXYMETHYL) PHOSPHINE OXIDE, AND TRIS(N,N-DIACEOAMINOMETHYL) PHOSPHINE AS WELL AS THE ALKALI METAL SALTS THEREOF, EXHIBITS MARKED SYNERGISM AS SEQUESTRANT COMPOSITIONS OVER A BROAD PH RANGE. THE SEQUESTRANT COMPOSITION ARE USEFUL AS ADDITIVES FOR DETERGENTS, METAL CLEANING BATHS, PEROXIDE COMPOSITIONS AND DYES, THE CHELATE PRODUCTS ARE USEFUL IN THE FIELD OF AGRICULTURE FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF TRACE ELEMENTS INTO PLANT LIFE AND ESPECIALLY IN THE TREATMENT OF IRON CHLOROSIS IN PLANTS.
