    摘要： An anvil position detector is provided for use with a surgical stapling instrument. The anvil position detector includes a projection formed on a driving or jaw closure mechanism of the surgical instrument and a recess for a notch formed on the jaw or anvil of the surgical instrument. Engagement of the projection with the notch provides a tactile and/or audible indication to the operator of the surgical instrument that the anvil or jaw is in proper alignment with the remainder of the surgical instrument.

    摘要： A method of gastric reduction is disclosed that includes the steps of: inserting an oral-gastric device into the interior volume of the stomach of a subject; and inserting through the esophagus at least one barbed suture in proximity to the muscularis of the stomach of a subject. The barbed suture has a first end having a pointed configuration, and a second end. The muscularis comprise at least first and second surfaces that are in at least partially interfacing relationship to one another in the interior volume. The method also includes inserting the first and/or the second end of the barbed suture through the muscularis to form at least first and second pull regions; and pulling the ends to cause the first pull region to move the first surface towards the interior volume and to cause the second pull region to move the second surface towards the interior volume.

    摘要： A surgical fastening apparatus includes a handle, an elongated member extending distally from the handle and a fastener applier and anvil head disposed at the distal end of the elongated member. The elongated member defines a distal offset end portion upon which the fastener applier and the anvil head are mounted. The offset end portion is angularly oriented with respect to the axis of the instrument at a predetermined fixed angle (e.g., either 45°, 60° and 75° relative to the axis of the instrument) thereby positioning the fastener applier and the anvil head at the fixed angle. This feature facilitates positioning of the tissue with respect to the instrument and enhances visual access to the tissue when appropriately disposed within the fastener applier and the anvil head. Various mechanisms for effectuating the clamping of the tissue between the fastener holder and anvil, and the firing of the instrument are disclosed.

    摘要： A gastric restrictor assembly is provided which includes a first longitudinal member, a second longitudinal member, a first connector and a second connector. The first and second connectors support the first and second longitudinal members in spaced relation. The second longitudinal member is rotatably supported between the first and second connectors and includes a bend or offset. The second longitudinal member is rotatable to rotate the offset in relation to the first longitudinal member to selectively vary the width of a channel defined between the first and second longitudinal members. In one embodiment, the second longitudinal member includes engagement structure for engaging a positioning tool and indexing structure for releasably securing the second longitudinal member at fixed positions of rotation in relation to the first longitudinal member.
