摘要: A catalyst for purifying exhaust gases includes a porous support, an NO.sub.x storage component including at least one member selected from the group consisting of alkaline-earth metals, rare-earth elements and alkali metals, and loaded on the porous support, a noble metal catalyst ingredient loaded on the porous support, and disposed adjacent to the NO.sub.x storage component, and ceria (CeO.sub.2) disposed away from the noble metal catalyst ingredient. By disposing the noble metal catalyst ingredient adjacent to the NO.sub.x storage component, the reduction reactions of NO.sub.x can be facilitated in fuel-rich (i.e., oxygen-lean) atmospheres without being interfered by the ceria. By disposing the ceria away from the noble metal catalyst ingredient, oxygen, which has been stored thereon in fuel-lean (i.e., oxygen-rich) atmospheres, can be released from the ceria at a controlled rate in a controlled amount in fuel-rich (i.e., oxygen-lean) atmospheres, and thereby the released oxygen can be inhibited from reacting with HC and CO in fuel-rich (i.e., oxygen-lean) atmospheres. Thus, the catalyst is improved in terms of NO.sub.x purifying performance.

摘要: A catalytic support 10 is made of rare-earth-element-oxide fine particles (e.g., ceria fine particles 11) comprising primary particles of a rare-earth element oxide, alumina fine particles 12 comprising primary particles of alumna, and barium-compound fine particles 13 comprising primary particles of a barium compound, rare-earth-element-oxide fine particles, alumina fine particles 12 and barium-compound fine particles 13 which are mixed with each other. A primary particle diameter of the rare-earth-element-oxide fine particles is 5 nm or less, and a primary particle diameter of the barium-compound fine particles 13 is 10 nm or less. Platinum fine particles 20 are supported, of this catalytic support 10, on the rare-earth-element-oxide fine particles virtually. It is possible to suppress the granular growth of platinum, which serves an oxidizing catalyst, and the granular growth of barium, which serves an NOx storage material, more securely.

摘要: An excellent oxygen storage capacity is achieved even in the case used for a long period of time under high temperature conditions. An oxygen storage material contains a first particle made of a composite oxide of cerium and zirconium or a composite oxide of cerium, a rare-earth element other than cerium and zirconium, a second particle including a composite oxide of a rare-earth element, an alkaline-earth element and zirconium, and a precious metal. A part of the precious metal forms a solid solution with the composite oxide included in the second particle.

摘要: A three-way catalyst (8a) is connected to a first cylinder group 1a. The exhaust gas of the first cylinder group (1a), which has passed through the three-way catalyst (8a), and the exhaust gas of a second cylinder group (1b) are introduced to an exhaust gas purifying catalyst (14). The second cylinder group (1b) performs the lean operation. The first cylinder group (1a) performs the rich operation to synthesize NH.sub.3 from NO.sub.X in the exhaust gas of the first cylinder group (1a) in the three-way catalyst (8a). In the exhaust gas purifying catalyst (14), NO.sub.X in the exhaust gas of the second cylinder group 1b is purified by NH.sub.3 from the three-way catalyst (8a). The amount of HC flowing to the three-way catalyst (8a) is obtained. When the HC amount exceeds a predetermined amount, the first cylinder group 1a must perform the lean operation temporarily, to thereby maintain the excellent catalytic activity of the three-way catalyst (8a).

摘要: A catalyst for the purification of exhaust gases comprising a catalyst carrier layer and catalyst ingredients carried thereon, is capable of enhancing the purification property by suppressing the growth of cerium oxide particles and preventing the formation of LaAlO.sub.3. This catalyst has two composition types. One is a binary composition catalyst comprising oxides of cerium and zirconium in the catalyst carrier layer and the other is a ternary composition catalyst comprising oxides of cerium, zirconium and lanthanum in the catalyst carrier layer.

摘要: An exhaust gas purifying catalyst for oxidizing HC and CO and for reducing NOx is provided, which comprises at least one oxide of rare earth element, rhodium, and at least one of platinum and palladium loaded on alumina grains. The major amount of rhodium is dispersed on the oxide of rare earth element. Thus, the rhodium solidification into the alumina grains is prevented. Further, when cerium oxide accompanying lanthanum oxide, neodymium oxide or a mixture thereof is used as the oxide of rare earth element, the sintering of cerium oxide or palladium at a high temperature is suppressed since it forms a complex oxide with lanthanum oxide, neodymium oxide or a mixture thereof. Additionally, when stabilized alumina grains in which a rare earth element and an alkali earth element are present in a solid solution state are used, the deterioration of NOx purifying activity of the catalyst at a high temperature is suppressed. The exhaust gas purifying catalyst of this invention has high durability as well as high activity at a high temperature.

摘要: An exhaust gas purification device that allows suppressing an increase in pressure loss is provided. The exhaust gas purification device of the present disclosure includes a honeycomb substrate and an inflow cell side catalyst layer. The substrate includes a porous partition wall which defines inflow cells and outflow cells extending from an inflow side end to an outflow side end. The inflow cell side catalyst layer is disposed on a surface on the inflow cell side in an inflow cell side catalyst region from an inflow side end to a position close to an outflow side end of the partition wall. The permeability of a portion including an outflow side region from the position to the outflow side end of the partition wall is higher than a gas permeability of a portion including the inflow cell side catalyst region of the partition wall and the inflow cell side catalyst layer.

摘要: To provide a heat-resistant oxide which is excellent in heat resistance and durability at high temperature and has high activity, a heat-resistant oxide which has an oxide crystal structure and in which a rate of a solid solution of a noble metal in the oxide crystal structure is 50% or more is obtained by heat-treating (secondarily baking) a precursor composition comprising zirconia, at least one coordinative element selected from the group consisting of rare earth elements, alkaline earth elements, aluminum and silicon, and at least one noble metal selected from the group consisting of platinum, rhodium and palladium at 650° C. or higher.
