There is provided a highly reliable panel assembly structure capable of performing fine-pitch high-density assembling at a high yield and a low cost. A flexible wiring board has a film-like substrate with flexibility, and an IC chip is mounted in an area. In the area is provided a through hole that has plane dimensions smaller than plane dimensions of the chip and penetrates the substrate. Portions that belong respectively to an output side wiring line and an input side wiring line provided on a substrate surface and are connected respectively to an output side electrode and an input side electrode of the chip via second connection materials and are supported by the substrate surface. An output terminal of the flexible wiring board is connected to an electrode terminal formed at a peripheral portion of a panel via a first connection material, while an input terminal of the flexible wiring board is connected to an electrode terminal of a circuit board via a third connection material.

In a display device, first flexible wiring boards each mounted with a drive IC are provided on opposite first and second sides of a display panel. Two second flexible wiring boards each mounted with a drive IC are provided on a third side adjoining the first and second sides of the display panel. A control board having electrode terminals for outputting a control signal is provided on a fourth side opposite the third side of the display panel. Each first flexible wiring board has input terminals and output terminals on opposite sides of a substrate thereof. Each second flexible wiring board input terminals and output terminals on adjoining sides of a substrate thereof. The output terminals of the first and second flexible wiring boards are connected with the associated electrode terminals of the display panel. The input terminals of the first flexible board on either side and the input terminals of each second flexible board are arrayed in a line and are connected with circuit wirings of a circuit board placed on the first and second sides of the display panel. The circuit wirings are also connected with the electrode terminals of the control board by a connector.

In a method for fabricating a semiconductor device and an apparatus for inspecting a semiconductor, laser processing is performed at different laser powers at different positions on a monitor substrate from a plurality of substrates having undergone an SPC step, to form polycrystalline silicon film over the entire area of the substrate. Thereafter, in an optimum power inspection/extraction step, the polycrystalline silicon film formed with varying film quality on the monitor substrate is inspected on inspection equipment to determine the optimum laser power. Then, in a laser processing step, the surface of the subsequent substrates having undergone the SPC step is irradiated with laser at the optimum laser power. Thus, high-quality polycrystalline silicon film is formed over the entire area of the substrate.

An interlayer insulating film is provided on the switching element. A pixel electrode connected with the switching element is provided on the interlayer insulating film. Moreover, a spacer for keeping a thickness of a liquid crystal layer constant is disposed in the liquid crystal layer and in a sealing member for sealing the liquid crystal layer. Materials of the interlayer insulating film and spacers are optimized. This configuration prevents degradation of a defective ratio and reliability due to the spacer disposed in the liquid crystal layer sinking into the interlayer insulating film.

A flat type display device is assembled compactly with high reliability. The flat type display device has a liquid crystal panel having electrode terminals on a peripheral portion of one face of the liquid crystal panel, a flexible wiring board having a drive IC mounted thereon for driving the liquid crystal panel, and a common wiring board having electrode terminals on one face thereof. The flexible wiring board is electrically connected to the electrode terminals of the liquid crystal panel. The common wiring board is electrically connected to the flexible wiring board so as to transmit an input signal, which has been received by the electrode terminals from external, to the drive IC. The liquid crystal panel and the common wiring board are mounted on each other so as to overlap each other in a state that their faces on which their respective electrode terminals are provided are opposed to each other and that the electrode terminals of the common wiring board are located outside of a peripheral portion of the liquid crystal panel. The flexible wiring board is provided in a clearance between the liquid crystal panel and the common wiring board.
