摘要： A transmitter/receiver circuit includes secondary batteries connected in series, a first protection circuit in a high voltage side of the secondary batteries and including a transmitter circuit increasing a voltage of a binary signal to a level that is a first voltage higher than an anode voltage of a first secondary battery connected to the first protection circuit, and a second protection circuit in a low voltage side of the secondary batteries and including a receiver circuit that receives the binary signal from the transmitter circuit via a wiring and including a shift part decreasing the voltage of the binary signal to a level that is a second voltage lower than a cathode voltage of a second secondary battery connected to the second protection circuit, and a detection part that determines that the wiring is disconnected when the voltage of the binary signal is lower than a reference voltage.

摘要： An information processing system, an information processing method for use with the system, an information providing system, and information providing method for use with the system, an information processing apparatus, an information processing method for use with the apparatus, a doll, an object, a program storage medium, and a program for authenticating users reliably are provided. A user acquires beforehand a doll called Pochara the Good Friend incorporating an IC chip that stores a user ID for authenticating the user. When the user mounts the doll on a platform 23 connected to a personal computer 22, the user ID is read from the IC chip by a reader housed in the platform 23 and transmitted over the Internet 1 to a Pochara service server 9. The server 9 has a Pochara database 10 holding personal information about users of the service. The transmitted user ID is checked against the personal information in the database for authentication. This invention applies advantageously to servers offering services through networks.

摘要： A projector includes: a light emitter; a light modulator modulating light from the light emitter; and a projector projecting the image from the light modulator. The light emitter includes a light emitting element and an optical member. The light emitting element is a super luminescent diode having an active layer constituting first and second gain regions sandwiched between first and second cladding layers. The first gain region is tilted in a clockwise direction relative a perpendicular of a first surface of the stacked structure. The second gain region is tilted in a counterclockwise direction relative to a perpendicular of the first surface. As such, the optical member refracts the light respectively emitted from the end surfaces of the first and second gain regions on the second surface side to thereby emit light beams in the same direction.

摘要： A voltage-detecting circuit includes a flying capacitor; a first switch circuit allowing plural electric cells connected in series, so that polarity of voltage across electrodes of the flying capacitor charged by one of the electric cells is opposite to polarity of voltage across the electrodes of the flying capacitor charged by an adjacent one of the electric cells; a second switch circuit discharging the flying capacitor; an output circuit outputting a signal depending on the voltage across the flying capacitor; a shield arranged around the flying capacitor electrodes to substantially equalize parasitic capacitances between the shield and each of the electrodes; and a voltage-controlling circuit equalizing voltage between one of the electrodes of the flying capacitor and the shield when charging the flying capacitor, with voltage between another one of the electrodes of the flying capacitor and the shield when discharging the flying capacitor.

摘要： A battery pack has first through third external terminals connected to positive and negative power supply terminals and a voltage detection terminal, respectively. A secondary battery is connected between the first external terminal and the third external terminal. A protection circuit controls ON/OFF of first and second switching elements provided on a wiring between the secondary battery and a load or a charge device by detecting an overcharge, an overdischarge and an overcurrent of the secondary battery. A first thermistor is connected between the second external terminal and the third external terminal. A series circuit containing a second thermistor and a resistor is provided in parallel to the secondary battery. A third switching element is connected between the second external terminal and the third external terminal. The protection circuit turns on the third switching element and short-circuits between the second external terminal and the third external terminal when a detection is made by the second thermistor that a temperature of the secondary battery exceeds a predetermined temperature.

摘要： A battery pack has a secondary battery, first and second switch devices provided between the secondary battery and a load or a charging unit, a protection circuit detecting an overcharge, an overdischarge or an overcurrent of the secondary battery and controlling turning on and off of the first and second switch devices, a series circuit of a resistor and a thermistor disposed in the vicinity of the secondary battery and connected in parallel with the secondary battery, a comparator which compares a voltage at a connection point between the thermistor and the resistor with a reference voltage corresponding to a predetermined temperature inside the protection circuit, and a third switch device connected between the resistor and a negative electrode of the secondary battery. The protection circuit turns off the first switch device and the third switch device when an overdischarge of the secondary battery is detected.
