Abstract: A vial enshrouded or contained in a protective covering which prevents emission of radiation form the vial contents, shielding the environment and personnel from irradiation. The vial optionally has a V-shaped bottom to allow withdrawal of a maximal amount of the fluid without inverting the vial. The vial is equipped with a vial access adapter having a fluid withdrawal spike which extends in to the V-shaped bottom. The vial access adapter may be vented or non-vented.

Abstract: Pen injection devices (10) and methods of using a pen injection device are disclosed. Pen injection devices include a sterile dual transfer spike assembly (150) including a dual transfer spike defining a fluidic pathway; a first cartridge assembly (12) including a first cartridge (20) containing a first substance; a second cartridge assembly (14) including a second cartridge (30) containing a second substance; a plunger rod (50) translatable in a first direction; and a biasing mechanism (60) configured to bias the plunger rod in a second direction opposite the first direction. Methods of using a pen injection device having a first container, a second container, a plunger rod, and a biasing mechanism include activating the pen injection device, thereby creating a fluidic pathway between the first container and the second container; and translating the plunger rod at least once, thereby transferring a first substance from one container to the other container to mix with a second substance.

Abstract: The invention provides container systems, kits and methods for peritoneal dialysis (PD) solutions. Such a system, for example, includes a first compartment that contains a PD osmotic agent and a second compartment that contains a PD buffer agent. The compartments maintain their respective contents separately from one another for purposes of transport, storage and/or sterilization. However, the compartments are fluidly couplable, so that their respective contents can be combined with one another, e.g., following sterilization of the agents and prior to their introduction into the patient's abdomen. The invention provides, in other aspects, such systems, kits and methods that provide protective structure which inhibits breaking of a seal prior between the second compartment and an outlet of the system, prior to breaking of a seal between the first and second compartments.

Abstract: Disclosed is a container and method for filling same. The container includes a thermally resealable portion that is fusible in response to thermal energy, and a container body having a sealed empty chamber in fluid communication with the resealable portion for receiving therein a substance. The container also includes a base, a mid-portion, and an upper portion axially spaced from the base on an opposite side of the mid-portion relative to the base. Each of the base and upper portion define a laterally-extending dimension greater than a maximum laterally-extending dimension of the mid-portion. The method of filling the container includes penetrating the resealable portion with an injection member and introducing a substance into the chamber, withdrawing the injection member while engaging the base of the body to substantially prevent axial movement of the body, and applying thermal energy to the resealable portion to thermally fuse the penetrated region thereof.

Abstract: The invention is a method that allows contamination-free transfer of a liquid from one container to another and devices including embodiments of a transfer apparatus and adaptors that are used to carry out the method. By contamination-free transfer of liquid it is meant that during the transfer process there is no leakage of the liquid or air contaminated by the liquid or vapors of the liquid to the surroundings and also that no contaminants from the surroundings come into contact with the liquid. The main advantages of the method, in addition to its simplicity, is that at no stage of the transfer procedure is there leakage of the liquid or air contaminated by the liquid or vapors of the liquid to the surroundings and also that no contaminants from the surroundings come into contact with the liquid. The present invention is particularly directed towards providing an apparatus that is adapted to effect contamination-free transfer of a hazardous drug to and from any container equipped with a standard connector port.

Abstract: Cap adapters for a medicament vial configured to facilitate the transfer of liquid medicament from, the vial and into a syringe. In one embodiment the cap adapter comprises a wall portion with a first lumen passing through it. A vial-engaging portion secures the cap adapter to the vial. A spike extends from the wall portion and defines a second lumen passing through the wall portion. A cone-shaped shield extends from the first lumen. The shield is configured to guide a hypodermic needle toward the first lumen to thereby reduce a risk of needlestick to a user handling the vial. In certain embodiments, a light source cooperates with the cap adapter to illuminate at least a portion of the cap adapter to reduce a risk of needlestick to a user handling the vial in a darkened environment. In certain embodiments, a secondary sealing member abuts a first face of the wall portion and seals an end of the first lumen. In certain embodiments, a locking sleeve resists or prevents removal of the cap adapter from the medicament vial.
