Abstract: The invention generally relates to systems and methods for collision induced dissociation of ions in an ion trap. In certain aspects, the invention provides a system that includes a mass spectrometer having an ion trap, and a central processing unit (CPU). The CPU includes storage coupled to the CPU for storing instructions that when executed by the CPU cause the system to generate one or more signals, and apply the one or more signals to the ion trap in a manner that all ions within the ion trap are fragmented at a same Mathieu q value.

Abstract: The invention generally relates to methods for analyzing an analyte in a sample. In certain embodiments, the methods involve providing a capture module, the module configured to capture an analyte in a sample in an ambient environment and generate ions of the analyte, wherein the capture module comprises a cartridge and a porous substrate within the cartridge that is connected to a voltage source, and wherein the porous substrate further comprises an internal standard; capturing the analyte in the sample to the porous substrate of the capture module; generating ions of the analyte and the internal standard held by the porous substrate via the voltage source that is coupled to the porous substrate; and analyzing the generated ions of the analyte and the internal standard in a mass analyzer that is operably coupled to the capture module.

Abstract: The invention generally relates to zero volt mass spectrometry probes and systems. In certain embodiments, the invention provides a system including a mass spectrometry probe including a porous material, and a mass spectrometer (bench-top or miniature mass spectrometer). The system operates without an application of voltage to the probe. In certain embodiments, the probe is oriented such that a distal end faces an inlet of the mass spectrometer. In other embodiments, the distal end of the probe is 5 mm or less from an inlet of the mass spectrometer.

Abstract: The invention generally relates to apparatuses for focusing ions at or above ambient pressure and methods of use thereof. In certain embodiments, the invention provides an apparatus for focusing ions that includes an electrode having a cavity, at least one inlet within the electrode configured to operatively couple with an ionization source, such that discharge generated by the ionization source is injected into the cavity of the electrode, and an outlet. The cavity in the electrode is shaped such that upon application of voltage to the electrode, ions within the cavity are focused and directed to the outlet, which is positioned such that a proximal end of the outlet receives the focused ions and a distal end of the outlet is open to ambient pressure.

Abstract: The invention generally relates to methods for analyzing stability of an active pharmaceutical agent. In certain aspects, the methods involve obtaining an active pharmaceutical agent, and distributing the active pharmaceutical agent into one or more microdroplets. The one or more microdroplets including the active pharmaceutical agent are then subjected to one or more conditions that force degradation of the active pharmaceutical agent in each of the one or more microdroplets. The one or more microdroplets are then analyzed to determine a ratio of the active pharmaceutical agent to that of a degradation product of the active pharmaceutical agent, thereby analyzing stability of an active pharmaceutical agent.
