Abstract:
A fuel composition of the present invention exhibits minimized hydrolysis and increased fuel stability, even after extended storage at 65null F. for 6-9 months. The composition, which is preferably not strongly alkaline (3.0 to 10.5), is more preferably weakly alkaline to mildly acidic (4.5 to 8.5) and most preferably slightly acidic (6.3 to 6.8), includes a lower dialkyl carbonate, a combustion improving amount of at least one high heating combustible compound containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of aluminum, boron, bromine, bismuth, beryllium, calcium, cesium, chromium, cobalt, copper, francium, gallium, germanium, iodine, iron, indium, lithium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, niobium, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, palladium, rubidium, sodium, tin, zinc, praseodymium, rhenium, silicon, vanadium, or mixture, and a hydrocarbon base fuel.

The catalyst of the invention includes Aluminium, Lead, Copper, Tin, Antimony, Zinc and Nickel located to be in contact with the fuel to be burned. Each of the elements is present in a preferred concentration range by weight which varies depending on the type of fuel. In a preferred embodiment, the Aluminium forms a container having an inlet and an outlet which defines a flow path through which the fuel flows. The other elements are located in the flow path such that all of the elements are in contact with the fuel as it flows through the container.

A method and apparatus are provided for reducing pollutants in the exhaust gases produced from the combustion of a fuel by introducing hydroxyl and associated radicals and oxidizers into at least one of the precombustion and postcombustion gas stream of the combustion engine upstream of the catalytic converter and treating the exhaust gases with the catalytic converter.
Abstract:
A process for producing an additive for hydrocarbon fuels by combining picric acid, powdered iron, an activating acid, and a liquid organic solvent. Alternatively, the powdered iron can first be washed with the activating acid and the rinsed with water or alcohol or water followed by alcohol; subsequently the washed and rinsed iron is combined with the picric acid and the liquid organic solvent. In the case of either alternative, hydroquinone can be added to the mixture in order to control undesired oxidation and corrosion, thereby further enhancing the stability of the additive.

In the combustion zone of a furnace burning sulphur-containing fuel, one introduces continuously sodium or potassium nitrate; ammonium nitrate; calcium hydroxide and/or magnesium carbonate; carbon; and ammonium carbonate.A neutralization of acidic sulphur compounds formed by the combustion is achieved, and the boiler is kept free from soot and other deposits.

Disclosure is made of a method of improving the combustion of base fuels selected from ammonia and amines. The method comprises the addition of hydrogen carriers to the base fuels, which possess an energy content and release it together with hydrogen for combustion upon ignition of the base fuel. The disclosure is also of novel fuel compositions which comprise from 0.5 to 15 percent by weight of a hydrogen carrier dissolved or suspended in the base fuel.
