Abstract: At crank angle CA10 at which the switch request of the drive cam was issued, the ejection operations of the pins at all the solenoid actuators started simultaneously. The ejected pins are seated on the cam carriers at erank angle CA12. The pin seated on the cam carrier moves along the grooves in accordance with the rotation of the cam carrier. The earliest finish timing of the switch operation of the drive cam is at crank angle CA13 (#4 cylinder). At the crank angle CA13, drive of the fuel injector and the ignition device in each cylinder is permitted.

Abstract: A valve train device for an engine includes: a shaft portion; a cam element portion which is mounted on the shaft portion; and an operation member. The cam element portion includes a first end surface cam and a second end surface cam. Each of the first end surface cam and the second end surface cam includes a lift portion. The operation member includes a first operation member and a second operation member. The first operation member causes the cam element portion to move in a first direction, and the second operation member causes the cam element portion to move in a second direction. The first end surface cam includes a first slope portion, and guides the first operation member radially outwardly; and a displacement allowing portion which is formed adjacent to the first slope portion, and allows relative displacement between the first operation member, and the cam element portion.

Abstract: Provided is a novel valve timing control apparatus capable of reducing an axial length and of reducing a thickness of a housing. A valve timing control apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a timing pulley to which a rotational force is transmitted from a crankshaft via a timing belt, a housing configured to be rotated by the timing pulley and including a plurality of shoes provided on an inner peripheral surface thereof, and a vane rotor relatively rotatably contained inside the housing and configured to be rotated in synchronization with a camshaft. The vane rotor includes a vane forming a retard angle oil chamber and an advance angle oil chamber inside the housing in cooperation with the plurality of shoes. A predetermined interval is provided between an outer peripheral portion of the housing and an inner peripheral portion of the timing pulley. An outer peripheral portion of a housing main body of the housing and the inner peripheral portion of the timing pulley are coupled with each other via a plurality of coupling beam portions with intervals in a circumferential direction. The housing main body, the timing pulley, and the plurality of coupling beam portions are integrally formed.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for operating an internal combustion engine in a two-stroke mode or a four-stroke mode to achieve greater fuel efficiency and minimize emissions. The system comprises a mode-adaptable valve; a valve rocker arm to actuate opening and closing of the mode adaptable valve; a cam follower of a first cam for carrying out a two-stroke mode; a cam follower of a second cam for carrying out a four-stroke mode; and a pin to mechanically couple the valve rocker arm to the cam follower of the first cam or the cam follower of the second cam. Coupling the valve rocker arm to the cam follower of the first cam enables a two-stroke mode and coupling the valve rocker arm to the cam follower of the second cam enables a four-stroke mode.

Abstract: An engine valve actuation mechanism for producing a variable engine valve event includes a cam, a rocker arm, a rocker arm shaft, an eccentric rocker arm bushing, and a bushing actuation device. The eccentric rocker arm bushing is disposed in an axial hole in the rocker arm, the rocker arm shaft being disposed in the eccentric rocker arm bushing with the rocker arm shaft and the eccentric rocker arm bushing having offset axial centerlines. One end of the rocker arm and the cam is connected to form a kinematic pair and the other end of the rocker arm is located above the engine valve with a gap between the cam and the engine valve. The bushing actuation device is placed in the rocker arm and drives the eccentric rocker arm bushing to rotate, and the rotation of the eccentric rocker arm bushing changes the gap to generate the variable engine valve event.

Abstract: A camshaft for a valve drive of an internal combustion engine having a variable valve opening time may include an outer shaft and an inner shaft that extends through the outer shaft, with the inner shaft being held rotatably with respect to the outer shaft. The camshaft may further include a cam having a multiple-piece configuration, comprising a first part cam and a second part cam. Either the first part cam or the second part cam may be connected fixedly to the outer shaft so as to rotate with it, and the other part cam may be connected fixedly to the inner shaft so as to rotate with it. The camshaft may also include a bearing inner ring of a shaft bearing that is held on the outer shaft, with one of two second part cams comprising an axial attachment that forms at least one part of the bearing inner ring.
