Abstract:
In a process and apparatus for the reduction of metal oxides to form metalized material by contact with hot reducing gas, which is produced at least partially by catalytic reformation of a mixture of—a gas containing carbon dioxide (CO2) and/or steam (H2O) with—gaseous hydrocarbons, the fuel gas for burners which provide the heat for the endothermal reformation processes which take place during the reformation is obtained at least partially from a partial quantity of the top gas produced during the reduction of metal oxides to form metalized material, wherein this partial quantity of the top gas, before it is used as a component of the fuel gas, is firstly subjected to dedusting and then to a CO conversion reaction, and the conversion gas obtained during the CO conversion reaction is subjected to CO2 removal after cooling.

A cooled strand guide roller (1) mounted at more than one location for guiding a metal strand (S) in a continuous casting machine, and a method for cooling a strand guide roller (1) mounted at more than one location. An internally cooled strand guide roller (1) is mounted at more than one location. The height of the strand guide roller (1) is intended to be adjustable easily and quickly. The strand guide roller (1) has a collecting bar (7) for supplying the strand guide roller (1) with cooling water. The collecting bar (7) includes a plurality of brackets (10, 10a, 10b). Between two successive brackets (10, 10a, 10b), there is at least one coolant pipe (11) for fluidically connecting the brackets (10, 10a, 10b). An outer bracket (10a) has at least one first connection (8) for internal cooling of the cooled strand guide roller (1) and at least one second connection (9) for cooling the bearing blocks (4). The first connection (8) is fluidically connected to the ducts (3) of the individual rollers (2a, 2b) and the second connection (9) is fluidically connected to the bearing blocks (4) via the brackets (10).
Abstract:
A method of forming tailored cast blanks including determining at least one of a thickness pattern or profile pattern for a blank, generating a layout for a series of blanks having the determined thickness or profile pattern and casting a strip in accordance with the layout, including varying the caster width during casting of the strip.
Abstract:
A method measures the flatness of a metal product and an associated device. The method applies to a metal product, in the form of either a strip or a plate from a metallurgical processing line. The product to be measured being, by default, free of external traction. The method contains the following steps: a) illuminating a portion of a face of the product under uniform intensity; b) capturing an image of a light line of the illuminated portion; c) relatively moving the illuminated portion and the light line in a defined direction in relation to the product; d) repeating steps a), b), c); and e) collecting the images of lines in a two-dimensional distribution of intensities and selecting a strand direction of the product in which, if at least one wave of intensities is detected, a local amplitude variation of the wave delivers a local strand flatness defect value.
