The hard polymer layer elastic modulus is greater than each of the first soft polymer layer elastic modulus and the second soft polymer layer elastic modulus. At least one of the first soft polymer layer and the second soft polymer layer has a flexural modulus of greater than about 35,000 psi.

Linear polycarbonate resin virtually free of surface defects that impair the suitability of the resin for demanding optical application is disclosed. Also disclosed is a process for the manufacture of the resin. The surface defects included in the resin are in the form of transparent fluorescing particles, the particle count of which portion that are 15 and 250 μm in size, is up to 1.8 counts/g, said count being determined by exciting the residue remaining after filtering a solution of said polycarbonate in methylene chloride through a Teflon filter of 5 μm pore size at a wavelength of 400-440 nm, 25× overall magnification and illumination time of 40 millisec. The polycarbonate is suitable for making films of improved optical properties.

The invention relates to films having good sliding friction properties and gloss values, consisting of a plastics composition comprising from 96 to 99.499 wt. % of a transparent polycarbonate and from 0.001 to 4 wt. % quaternary ammonium salts of perfluoroalkylsulfonic acids as lubricant additive and from 0.5 to 29.999 wt. % barium sulfate, the sum of the mentioned constituents in each case being 100 wt. %. The films exhibit improved properties in processing. The invention relates further to mouldings produced from these films.

The particles are characterized in that their refractive index is different from that of the polymeric resin and in that their average particle size is 1 and 100 μm. One surface of the film is structured its 60° gloss value is greater than 0.5 and smaller than 20%, and its roughness is greater than 3 and lower than 25 μm. The other surface has a 60° gloss value greater than 50%. The film is suitable for use in flat screens.
