Abstract:
A high traction synthetic rope comprising a braided sheath (8) adhered to a synthetic strength member (7) by means of a first synthetic portion (9) and portions of material (23) adhered to the outside surface of the braided sheath by means of a second synthetic portion (21), where the portions of material (23) are formed of a substance that differs from a substance mainly forming the second synthetic portion (21) and exhibits greater friction when wet or with greasy conditions and measured on an iron surface than does the substance mainly forming the second synthetic portion. Also methods of manufacturing such a high traction synthetic rope are disclosed. The rope shows reliable traction on driven rotating elements during wet/greasy conditions.
Abstract:
A steel cord (20) comprises a plurality of steel filaments (22, 24) arranged in parallel to the longitudinal axis of the steel cord (20) without twisting. The steel cord (20) further comprises a wrapping filament (26) twisted around the steel cord (20). Each of said steel filaments (22, 24) is a flat wire having flat surfaces. The steel filament (24) near the center of the steel cord (20) has a bigger width than the steel filaments (22) further away from the center of the steel cord (20) such that the cross-section of said steel cord (20) approximates an oval shape with the bending stiffness around the shorter axis of the oval shape being greater than the bending stiffness around the longer axis. In a tire, the steel cord being used as a reinforcement, the longer axis being arranged perpendicular to the radial direction of the tire.
Abstract:
The abrasion resistance of organic fiber based ropes and cords is increased by a outer woven cover of tapes of high molecular weight and more preferably ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene.
Abstract:
Steel wire is coated with a metal layer such that the metal layer has a surface with roughnesses. A surface roughness Ra of above 0.25 μm is reached. Preferably, the roughnesses are randomly dispersed at the surface. The result is an improved visual aspect and an increased resistance against corrosion.
Abstract:
A fishing line including a core of at least one multifilament yarn based on synthetic organic fibrous materials, and a casing formed from polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE) film tape which is wound around the core in the S direction and the Z direction or vice versa.
Abstract:
In a composite of vulcanizable rubber or rubber-like composition with one or more metal reinforcement elements embedded therein, the metal reinforcement element is coated with a polymer or non-cured rubber composition compatible with and co-polymerizable, co-vulcanizable or crosslinkable with said vulcanizable ruber composition to be reinforced, and additionally bearing functional groups either covalently bonding to the metal surface of said reinforcement element or forming covalent bonds with the outward directed first functional groups of a mono- or multimolecular layer of a bifunctional adhesion promoter intercalated between said metal and said coating and bound to said metal by its second functional groups. A cured rubber or rubber-like product, for instance a pneumatic tire, is obtained by vulcanization of such a composite.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire bead is formed into a spiral coil consisting of a plurality of convolutions or turns of wire. The wire may be round, square, oval or hexagonal in cross section. A crimp or offset bend is made in each of the convolutions a distance of one wire width or a fraction of the wire width in each full 360 degree wire turn such that the ends of the bead wire permit the bead side walls to remain in flat parallel planes. This offset relationship reduces nonuniformity in the tire heretofore produced by spirally wound wire beads. The bead wire can be wound in a vertical plane or in a radial spiral clock-like spring fashion. In another embodiment a pair of mirror image offset coils are joined together to form a composite bead preferably for use in heavy duty applications. In still another embodiment a single flat hoop may be placed between a pair of mirror image offset coils to increase resistance to circumferential distortion.
Abstract:
A reinforcing cord for use in radial tires, conveyor belts, hoses or driving belts, includes at least one strand of metal wires twisted along the longitudinal axis of the strand. Each metal wire has a substantially rectangular cross-section defining two opposite broad sides. The wires in the strand engage one another along their broad sides and preferably are wrapped around by a wrapping wire.
Abstract:
A steel member, essentially rectangular in cross-section, having an aspect ratio greater than 2 having an adhesive coating on the surface thereof, wherein the reinforcing member is characterized by a tensile strength greater than 200 ksi and a microstructure of tempered martensite, bainite and mixtures thereof.A method is disclosed for making a steel member comprising the steps of slitting in coil form steel stock containing more than about 0.40% carbon, continuously heat treating the stock so as to obtain a microstructure of tempered martensite, bainite or mixtures thereof and then applying an adhesive coating to the stock.
