The mesa includes a first lower clad layer portion, a first core layer portion, and a first upper clad layer portion. The first lower clad layer portion, the first core layer portion, and the first upper clad layer portion are disposed in this order from the substrate side. The optical device also includes a first etch stop layer configured to stop etching when the first optical waveguide is formed. The first etch stop layer being laminated over the substrate. The first optical waveguide is laminated on the first etch stop layer.

    摘要: In one embodiment, the optical transmitter is configured to generate a plurality of optical signals at a corresponding plurality of different wavelengths multiplexed onto an output waveguide. The transmitter includes a first and second converter including different first and second active materials configured to emit light at a first and a different second wavelength, respectively. Furthermore, the transmitter includes a first converter waveguide traversing the first and second material of the first and second converters. The second material is at an output end of the first converter waveguide and the first material is at an input end, upstream of the output end, of the first converter waveguide. The second active material is transparent to the light at the first wavelength and the output end of the first converter waveguide leads to the output waveguide.

    摘要: A method to tune an emission wavelength of a wavelength tunable LD is disclosed. The wavelength tunable LD includes two regions each providing micro heaters to modify the refractive index of micro regions provided with power. The method periodically detects a difference between the emission wavelength and the target wavelength. This wavelength difference is converted into power next supplied to respective micro heaters independently.
