Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for hydrogen production and to a method of hydrogen and/or carbon dioxide production from syngas. The method comprises the steps of: (i) providing a gas stream comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide, (ii) separating at least part of hydrogen from the stream yielding a hydrogen-depleted stream, (iii) subjecting the hydrogen-depleted stream to a water-gas shift reaction, and (iv) separating hydrogen from the stream resulting from step (iii). The method according to the invention improves the conversion of carbon monoxide in the water gas shift reaction and allows to increase the hydrogen production by 10-15% and to increase the overall energy efficiency of the system by 5-7%. The invention further relates to a plant for hydrogen and/or carbon dioxide production suitable for the method of the invention.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and a method which can be used for improving energy efficiency in production of a chemical product. The apparatus 1 for producing a chemical product comprises a synthesis gas generation unit 11, a synthesis unit 16, and a reforming unit 12. The synthesis gas generation unit 11 generates a synthesis gas by partial oxidation of these carbon sources. The synthesis unit 16 subjects the provided synthesis gas to catalytic reaction so as to synthesize a chemical product. The reforming unit 1 reforms hydrocarbons generated in at least one of the synthesis gas generation unit 11 and the synthesis unit 16 into carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and feeds them into the synthesis unit 16. The reforming unit 12 reforms the hydrocarbons by utilizing heat exhausted from the synthesis gas generation unit 11.

Abstract: A system and method for improving the quality of a raw gas or raw syngas passes the raw gas or raw syngas past a catalytic element comprising catalyst with an optional sorbent. A downstream measurement of one or more parameters of the improved gas is fed back to a controller configured to regulate the regeneration of the catalyst and optional sorbent and, optionally, the flow rate of the regeneration fluid to the catalytic element. The system and method are particularly suitable for improving raw syngas generated from a carbonaceous material in a fixed bed or fluidized-bed or entrained-flow gasifier. One or more undesirable syngas constituents are subject to one or more of catalytic cracking, reforming, partial oxidation and/or decomposition to promote their conversion into desirable syngas constituents. At least one catalytic element is regenerated in situ, either periodically, continuously, or in a combination of these two modes.

Abstract: A device and method for producing a reformate fuel from a hydrocarbon gas source. The invention enables the conversion of a dilute hydrocarbon gas into a more easily consumable reformate fuel. Gases having low concentrations of hydrocarbons are concentrated using a concentrator into a gaseous or liquid concentrated VOC fuel. The concentrated VOC fuel is then converted into a reformate using a reformer. The reformate is more easily consumed by an energy conversion device such as a combustion engine, fuel cell, sterling engine or similar device that converts chemical energy into kinetic or electrical energy. The reformer enables complex hydrocarbon fuels that are not normally suitable for use in an energy conversion device to be converted into a reformate. The reformate may be directly supplied into the energy conversion device.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for decarbonizing gases using pressure swing in a first and second pressure vessel that each comprise a fixed bed sorbent. Syngas and steam are received in the first pressure vessel. A carbonation reaction is performed in the first pressure vessel that reacts carbonaceous species in the received syngas with the received steam to produce carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Decarbonated syngas is exhausted from first pressure vessel. A calcination reaction is performed in the second pressure vessel to produce carbon dioxide. A vacuum is provided to the second pressure vessel that causes carbon dioxide to exhaust from the second pressurized vessel at a pressure that substantially follows the decomposition pressure line.
