摘要: An apparatus and method for directly applying a liquid sample matrix containing analytes and possible endogenous compounds to selected areas of a thin layer chromatographic sheet. The apparatus comprises a manifold made from an upper and lower filter block which are fastened together and supported on a support member. The thin layer chromatographic sheet is held between the upper and lower filter block. Samples are applied to the thin layer chromatographic sheet through aligned through-bores in the upper and lower filter block by connecting a syringe to the through-bores of the upper filter block. The method involves initially wetting areas of the thin layer chromatographic sheet where the sample is subsequently applied. Analytes retained on the thin layer chromatographic sheet are subsequently analyzed and may be further extracted from the thin layer chromatographic sheet for analysis.

摘要: A device is disclosed for use in a chromatographic system wherein a component of a mixture is partitioned between a liquid phase and an immobile phase. The device comprises at least one strip of a bibulous material. In the chromatographic system the component traverses at least a portion of the strip. The strip generally has a longitudinal edge substantially corresponding to the direction of traverse of the component. The longitudinal edge has the characteristic of substantially the same rate of traversal by the component along this edge when compared to the rate of traversal of the component along the body of the strip. The strips are prepared from a sheet of a bibulous material by non-defomative or non-compressive cutting of the sheet. The preferred cutting means is a laser beam.

摘要: A chromatographic column is disclosed in which flow through the separating medium bed takes place horizontally. The column is packed with small, rigid, high performance separation medium. The fluid sample containing several components flows horizontally through the stationary phase or medium and is separated at least partially into discrete components. Means for providing even horizontal flow distribution of the sample fluid and for collection of the discrete components of the sample fluid are included. The stationary phase consists of a packed bed of high performance, small size particles of either (a) absorbants such as silica, alumina etc; (b) packing for reverse phase ion-exchange, affinity, hydrophobic, chiral or ion chromatography; (c) hydroxylapatite; or packing used for desalting. The column as a whole may be fabricated to be disposable or may be constructed to have a more simplified but durable housing.

摘要: A chromatographic plate comprising a support having a plurality of linear grooves engraved on the rear is disclosed. Each of said grooves have a uniform depth of a half or less as large as the thickness of the support and serves to guide a cutter. After the chromatographic development, the support may easily be cloven along the grooves into strips together with an adsorbent layer carried by the front of the support to give a sample holder for mass spectrometry.

摘要: A test device and method for detecting myoglobin in the presence of hemoglobin in a fluid test sample. The test device comprises a chromatographic medium incorporating serum, haptoglobin and/or antiserum which binds or retards hemoglobin while permitting myoglobin to traverse the length of the test device. A test sample of body fluid is placed in contact with an appropriate portion of the chromatographic medium of said test device; hemoglobin in the body fluid is retained or retarded by the serum, haptoglobin and/or antiserum; and myoglobin in the sample traverses the length of the medium and contacts reagent means at a predetermined location thereon, resulting in a detectable response thereat.
