    摘要: A system and method for quantitatively characterizing moisture content of an at least partially hydrophobic fluid sample. The method includes providing a dry solution of an aprotic solvent, adding at least a part of the fluid sample to the solvent to produce an extract-sample, performing infrared spectroscopic testing on the extract-sample to generate absorbance data representing at least one absorbance characteristic of the extracted sample, and generating moisture data for the sample based on the extracted sample data. The system includes a cell for holding and evaluating an extracted sample, an infrared spectrometer for measuring infrared absorbance characteristics of the extracted samples, a computer equipped with software for analyzing data outputted by the infrared spectrometer and utilizing an empirical model to derive at least one calibration equation relating data representing the absorbance characteristics of the extract-sample to unit moisture concentration, and converting the unit moisture concentration to a measure of moisture content of the sample. The method also utilizes D2O to characterize moisture content of the extraction solvent, and compensate for both moisture content of the extraction solvent and matrix effects stemming from miscibility of the hydrophobic fluid in the extraction solvent.

    摘要: Soybean oil is extracted by a two-stage process in which up to 85%, preferably from about 60 to about 75%, of the soybean oil in soybeans is extracted by mechanical or solvent extraction to produce first extracted oil and oil-containing meal. The first extracted oil is then refined by caustic or physical refining. Substantially all of the oil remaining in the meal is extracted by solvent extraction to produce second extracted oil and substantially oil-free meal. The second extracted oil may be transesterified for use in biodiesel fuel.

    摘要: An alkaline treatment method for refining used oils, wherein (a) the used oils are distilled; (b) the resulting distillate is treated with an alkaline agent in the presence of a solvent selected from water, a monoalcohol, a polyalcohol and a mixture of said a alcohols, said alkaline agent being present in a percentage by weight, based on the weight of the distillate, equal to the product F.times.(IA+IS), where F is a multiplier between 2 and 50 and IA and IS are the acid value and the saponification value respectively of said distillate, at a temperatue of around 80-330.degree. C. for 2-200 minutes; (c) the reaction medium is washed with water then decanted to recover the oily phase; and (d) said oily phase is distilled. The method is useful for producing refined oils having excellent properties in that they are odorless and nearly colorless and in that they have a very low chlorine, phosphorus and sillicon content.

The process includes fractionating a distilled or undistilled whole cut coconut fatty acid having 11-20% C 10 or less, 44-52% C 12, 13-19% C 14, 8-12% C 16, and 6-14% C 18 carbon chain links to form a top cut of C-12 and less any bottom cut of C 12-18. The C 12-18 is then fractionated to form a top cut of C 12-16-90% and a bottom cut of C 18. The top cut has a chain length distribution of about 2% maximum of C 10 or less, 56-66% C 12, 18-27% C 14, 9-17% C 16, and 3% maximum of C 18 carbon chain links.
