Abstract: A whole blood filtration device is provided with a filter membrane separating a feeding volume and a clean side of the filter membrane from each other. The feeding volume communicates with a first feeding side opening and with a second feeding side opening. The filter membrane has pores with a pore size that ensures permeability of the filter membrane to blood plasma/serum and that retains blood cells. The first feeding side opening can be coupled to a first blood pump for feeding blood from the first feeding side opening into the feeding volume so that blood plasma/serum permeates the filter membrane and blood cells, retained by the filter membrane, exit from the feeding volume through the second feeding side opening.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to dead-end filtration systems and, more particularly, to pulse-modulated periodic backflush systems and methods for clearing fouling layers in dead-end filtration systems. In some embodiments, a controller may control the flow of fluid in the system from cycling from a forward flow to a reverse flow. In some embodiments, the controller may cycle from forward to reverse flow based on a volumetric flow ratio. Embodiments of the present disclosure describe optimal volumetric flow ratios for optimizing the break of cake in a dead-end filtration system. Embodiments of the present disclosure describe optimal volumetric flow ratios for optimizing recovery percentages of targeted particles.

Abstract: A device and method for isolating extracellular vesicles from biofluids is disclosed. A nanoporous silicon nitride membrane is provided with a tangential flow of biofluid. A pressure gradient through the nanoporous silicon nitride membrane facilitates capture of extracellular vesicles from the tangential flow vector of biofluid. Reversal of the pressure gradient results in the release of the extracellular vesicles for subsequent collection.

Abstract: An isolation device for isolation of target particles from a plurality of liquid samples includes a plurality of isolation chips and a vacuum system. Abstract: A continuous field flow fractionator includes a membrane, a bottom plate assembly and a top plate assembly that includes an inject port, an inlet port, at least one orthogonal flow inlet port, at least one orthogonal flow outlet port, and at least two sample outlet ports. The top plate assembly, the membrane, and the bottom plate assembly define a separation channel. The solvent flowing from the at least one orthogonal flow inlet port impinges on particles of a sample flowing between the inject port to the at least two sample outlet ports in the orthogonal flow region. The particles of the sample flow to the at least two sample outlet ports according to sizes of the particles of the sample, resulting in fractions of the sample in accordance with the sizes of the particles.
