Abstract: An electronic device includes a laser source configured to direct laser radiation toward a user's hand. A laser detector is configured to receive reflected laser radiation from the user's hand. A controller is coupled to the laser source and laser detector and configured to determine a plurality of distance values to the user's hand based upon a time-of-flight of the laser radiation, calculate a mean absolute deviation (MAD) value based upon the plurality of distance values, and identify whether the user's hand is moving in a first or second gesture based upon the MAD value.

Abstract: A power conversion device includes an enclosure containing one or more drops of a liquid. A capacitive electret transducer is coupled to the enclosure. In response to applied heat at a heating surface, the liquid vaporizes and then condenses on a flexible membrane of the capacitive electret transducer. The flexible membrane is displaced in response to the vaporization-condensation and the capacitive electret transducer generates an output current.

The reference circuit may include optical DUTs, a first set of photodetectors coupled to outputs of the optical DUTs, an optical splitter coupled to inputs of the optical DUTs, and a second set of photodetectors coupled to the optical splitter. The optical splitter is to be coupled to an optical source and configured to transmit a reference optical signal to the first set of photodetectors via the optical DUTs and the second set of photodetectors.

Abstract: A strained semiconductor layer is produced from a semiconductor layer extending on an insulating layer. A thermal oxidization is performed on the semiconductor layer across its entire thickness to form two bars extending in a direction of a transistor width. Insulating trenches are formed in a direction of a transistor length. A strain of the strained semiconductor layer is induced in one implementation before the thermal oxidation is performed. Alternatively, the strain is induced after the thermal oxidation is performed. The insulating trenches serve to release a component of the strain extending in the direction of transistor width. A component of the strain extending in the direction of transistor length is maintained. The bars and trenches delimit an active area of the transistor include source, drain and channel regions.

Abstract: A method determines a movement of an apparatus between capturing first and second images. The method includes testing model hypotheses of the movement by for example a RANSAC algorithm, operating on a set of first points in the first image and assumed corresponding second points in the second image to deliver the best model hypothesis. The testing includes, for each first point, calculating a corresponding estimated point using the tested model hypothesis, determining the back-projection error between the estimated point and the second point in the second image, and comparing each back projection error with a threshold. The testing comprises for each first point, determining a correction term based on an estimation of the depth of the first point in the first image and an estimation of the movement between the first and second images, and determining the threshold associated with the first point by using said correction term.

Abstract: An ESD protection device includes a MOS transistor connected between a first terminal and a second terminal and having a gate region, source/drain region and a well region electrically coupled by a resistive-capacitive circuit configured to control turn on of the MOS transistor in response to an ESD event. The resistive-capacitive circuit has a common part with at least one of the source, gate or drain regions of the MOS transistor and includes a capacitive element and a resistive element. A first electrode of the capacitive element is formed by the resistive element and a second electrode of the capacitive element is formed by at least a portion of a semiconductor film within which the source/drain region is formed.

Abstract: A color image sensor including an array of pixels is formed in a semiconductor layer having a back side that receives an illumination. Insulated conductive walls penetrate into the semiconductor layer from the back side and separate the pixels from one another. For each pixel, a color pixel penetrates into from 5 to 30% of a thickness of the semiconductor layer from the back side and occupies at least 90% of the surface area delimited by the walls. An electrically-conductive layer extends from the lateral wall of the filter all the way to the walls.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing an optical device is disclosed. The method includes forming a waveguide in a glass plate. The method further includes scanning the glass plate with a laser beam directed at an acute angle with respect to a first surface to form a mirror trench in the glass plate. Scanning the glass plate with the first laser beam includes pulses of the laser beam that have a duration between 2 and 500 femtoseconds. The method also includes filling the mirror trench with a reflective material and depositing a cladding layer over the waveguide and mirror trench.
