    摘要: The present invention relates to a tire with a carbon black-containing, black-colored, circumferential tread of a cap/base construction, wherein said tread cap has a lug and groove configuration and wherein the outer surface of a major portion of said grooves are designed to be ground contacting, and a co-extruded thin outer non-carbon black-containing rubber layer of a non-black color wherein said outer rubber layer is integral with and circumferentially extends from the axial outer edge of said tread cap to include at least of a visible surface of at least one groove in said tread cap. In one aspect, said tread contains a pair of black colored, carbon black reinforced, tread miniwings which extend from the axial outer edge of the tread over a portion of the tire sidewall, wherein said thin outer rubber layer joins said miniwing and wherein said tread cap, tread base, tread miniwings and thin outer layer are co-extruded, co-cured and therefore integral with each other.

    摘要: This invention relates to a rubber composition comprised of a halogenated (e.g. brominated) copolymer of isobutylene and p-methyl styrene elastomer reinforced with synthetic particulate silica-based reinforcement together with an organo phosphite to aid in enhancing the silica reinforcement of the halogenated isobutylene copolymer elastomer. Preferably, the rubber composition is comprised of a combination of a brominated copolymer of isobutylene and p-methyl styrene and at least one diene-based elastomer. The invention further relates to an article of manufacture, including a tire, having at least one component comprised of such rubber composition.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a tire having a rubber tread of a lug and groove configuration and which may be of a co-extruded cap/base construction; wherein at least a part of the visible portion of the tread is exclusive of carbon black and thereby of a color other than black. Such non-black colored rubber includes the outer surface of at least one of said tread lugs intended to be ground-contacting. In one aspect of the invention, said non-black colored rubber composition contains (A) a precipitated silica reinforcement which has been pre-treated with a hydrophobation agent and optionally also pre-treated with a coupling agent or (B) a precipitated silica which has been pre-treated with a hydrophobating agent and a coupling agent which does not from an alcohol byproduct upon reacting with hydroxyl groups (e.g. silanol groups) contained on the surface of said precipitated silica. In another aspect of the invention, said non-black colored rubber composition is comprised of at least one diene based elastomer and a brominated poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) where a coupling agent for said silica is an organo phosphite.

    摘要: This invention is based upon the discovery that cyclized polyisoprene polymers can be incorporated into tire tread compounds to improve traction, treadwear, and resistance to tear. It is further based upon the discovery that cyclized polyisoprene polymers can be blended with halobutyl rubber and/or natural rubber and can be utilized in tire innerliner formulations. The present invention more specifically discloses a tire which is comprised of a generally toroidal-shaped carcass with an outer circumferential tread, two spaced beads, at least one ply extending from bead to bead and sidewalls extending radially from and connecting said tread to said beads, wherein said tread is adapted to be ground-contacting, and wherein said tread is comprised of a sulfur cured rubber composition which is comprised of about 5 phr to about 50 phr of cyclized polyisoprene and about 50 phr to about 95 phr of at least one other rubbery polymer. The present invention further discloses a tire which is comprised of a generally toroidal-shaped carcass with an outer circumferential tread, two spaced beads, an innerliner, at least one ply extending from bead to bead and sidewalls extending radially from and connecting said tread to said beads, wherein said innerliner is comprised of a sulfur cured rubber composition which is comprised of about 5 phr to about 50 phr of cyclized polyisoprene and about 50 phr to about 95 phr of at least one other rubbery polymer selected from the group consisting of natural rubber and halobutyl rubber.

    摘要: A method is disclosed for processing a rubber composition comprising thermomechanically mixing at a rubber temperature in a range of 140.degree. C. to 190.degree. C. for a mixing time of 1 to 20 minutes (i) 100 parts by weight of at least one sulfur vulcanizable elastomer selected from conjugated diene homopolymers and copolymers, natural rubber and copolymers of at least one conjugated diene and aromatic vinyl compound; (ii) 10 to 250 phr of particulate precipitated silica; (iii) 0.01 to 1.0 parts by weight per weight of said silica of an organosilicon compound; and (iv) 0.05 to 10 phr of sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate. Addition of the sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate to sulfur vulcanizable rubber, silica and sulfur containing organosilicon compound decreases the mixing/processing time without sacrificing end product properties.

    摘要: This invention relates to a pneumatic rubber tire having a puncture resistant rubber sidewall. The said tire sidewall is comprised of an outer, visible annular configured sidewall rubber layer and an inner (non-visible) annular configured sidewall rubber layer integral with and underlying said outer sidewall rubber layer, wherein said inner sidewall rubber layer contains a dispersion of short fibers, wherein said short fibers are substantially aligned in parallel relationship to each other and substantially parallel to the said annular configuration of said inner sidewall rubber layer. In a further aspect of the invention, said tire is comprised of a carcass which contains a rubber carcass ply comprised of a rubber encapsulated cord reinforcement of a plurality of cords wherein said cords are positioned in a radially disposed spaced apart substantially parallel relationship to each other, wherein said rubber carcass ply is integral with and underlies said inner rubber sidewall layer and wherein said short fibers of said inner rubber sidewall layer are substantially aligned in a perpendicular direction to said cords of said underlying carcass ply.
