    Abstract: A steerable kink resistant access device is provided having an elongated body and a steerable portion. The access sheath has an outside diameter sufficiently small so that it may be inserted into a body cavity or conduit. The access sheath typically has two internal lumen, a first lumen sized and configured as an access to a surgical site and a second lumen sized and configured to contain a tensioning device that, when acted upon, will deflect the steerable portion. The tensioning device may be directly or remotely attached to an actuation device that operates to control the tensioning and loosening of the tensioning device.

    Abstract: A surgical clamp includes opposing jaws and a covering enhancing traction between the jaws and a body conduit. A multiplicity of fibers oriented to extend longitudinally between the clamp and conduit may be composed of filaments and either woven or non-woven to form a fabric. A variety of weaves are contemplated to provide different textures, each having its own traction characteristics. The nature of the weave can control characteristics such as smoothness, absorption, and texture.     Abstract: A trocar fixation device includes a cannula and an elongate tube mounted onto and coupled to the exterior surface of the cannula with the distal end of the cannula extending distally beyond the distal end of the elongate tube. The elongate tube includes a plurality of slits cut at an angle to a longitudinal axis of the elongate tube. The trocar fixation device is activated by rotating the proximal-end region of the elongate tube in a first direction and is deactivated by rotating the proximal-end region of the elongate tube in a second direction, opposite to the first direction. Activation of the trocar fixation device compresses the material positioned between adjacent slits and forces the material radially outwardly, away from the exterior surface of the cannula, thereby forming ridges.     Abstract: The invention is directed to a trocar adapted to form a seal around a surgical instrument, the trocar comprising a cannula having an axis extending between a proximal end and a distal end; a housing having a proximal wall and forming with the cannula a working channel sized and configured to receive the instrument; a septum seal disposed in the housing and extending transverse to the axis of the cannula across the working channel, the septum seal having a normal state when the instrument is absent from the working channel and a stretched state when the instrument is being withdrawn from the working channel; portions of the proximal wall of the housing defining an orifice sized and configured to receive the instrument into the working channel; and an elastomeric ring-shaped projection extending axially distally between the proximal wall and the septum seal, the ring-shaped projection having an axial length adapted to deform to prevent inversion and binding of the septum seal and the orifice upon withdrawal of the surgical instrument. In particular, the septum seal is prevented from reaching the orifice in the proximal wall of the housing when the instrument is withdrawn. The projection may be bonded, insert-molded, or compressively fitted to the proximal wall of the housing. The projection may be formed of an elastomeric material such as natural or synthetic rubber. The projection may further comprise a plurality of portions or fingers extending axially distally from the proximal wall, each of the extending portions or fingers may further include a living hinge. In another aspect, the ring-shaped projection may be formed on the surface of the septum seal instead of the proximal wall of the housing. That is, the ring-shaped projection may be formed to extend axially proximally from the surface of the septum seal toward the proximal wall of the housing.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a device and method for securing a passed surgical suture in a manner similar to a tied knot. The suture securing device comprises a male piece having a top portion, a center shaft having one end connected to the top portion, and an end member having a capturing feature connected to another end of the center shaft; and a female piece having a top end and a bottom end comprising a column being generally cylindrical in shape and forming a hollow opening along its length, wherein the opening slidingly receives the center shaft and a suture to be captured and held by the capturing feature, the suture being secured in place between the column and the center shaft. The assembled male and female pieces are irreversibly interlocked and form a lightly compressed, convoluted or tortuous pathway. The capturing feature is formed to engage and obliquely capture the suture from different angles. The radii of the male and female pieces are preferably greater than the radius of the suture. The securing device may further comprise a link formed between the male and female pieces. The link may be a tether formed when the male and female pieces are formed. The link may be severed and removed after placement and assembling of the male and female pieces. In another aspect of the invention, a method for applying a suture securing device is disclosed comprising the steps of: (1) providing the suture securing device of the invention; (2) aligning the male piece and the female piece at a desired location for applying the suture securing device; and (3) pressing the center shaft of the male piece into the opening of the female piece. The method may further comprise the step of applying a compressive load on the male piece to dislodge an enlargement from an undercut of the female piece and to place the male piece and the female piece in a condition where they may be advanced to a desired position along the suture.

The facility is a group of adjacent bays; each bay is one car wide, has a ground floor that provides access and egress to entrance and delivery portals, and has multiple levels of storage above (or below) the ground floor.
