Abstract:
A navigational mirror system for a vehicle includes an interior rearview mirror having a reflective element. A display, optionally a video display, is disposed to the rear of the reflective element and emits light when actuated that passes through the reflective element to be visible to a driver of the vehicle viewing a front portion of the reflective mirror element. A user input comprising a destination address is provided from a driver of the vehicle when the vehicle is at an initial geographic location. The display displays driving instructions that provide instructions to the destination address. The driving instructions are viewable by a person viewing the front portion of the reflective element. A particular instruction of the driving instructions is preferably displayed when it is appropriate to display the particular instruction to the driver of the vehicle.
Abstract:
The present invention provides optical fiber coating systems and coated optical fibers. According to one embodiment of the invention, a coated optical fiber includes an optical fiber having a core and a cladding; and a primary coating encapsulating the optical fiber, the primary coating having a Young's modulus of about 5 MPa or less, the primary coating being the cured reaction product of a primary curable composition having a gel time less than about 1.4 seconds at a UV intensity of 3.4 mW/cm2.

Abstract:
A vehicular communication system comprises a wireless communication link from the vehicle to an external provider of information or service. Data pertaining to at least one of the location and the direction heading of the vehicle is communicated to the external provider from the vehicle via the communication link. This data is derived at least in part from a global positioning system that determines the geographic location and/or the direction heading of the vehicle. The external provider wirelessly provides information or service back to the vehicle via the communication link that is at least in part customized to the geographic location and/or direction heading of the vehicle.
Abstract:
A safety sensing system for a compartment of a vehicle is operable to detect an occupant within the vehicle compartment. The system may be operable to sense ambient conditions in the vehicle compartment, and may generate a control signal in response to the sensed conditions. The system may actuate indicators to notify operators of the vehicle that there is a person or animal detected in the compartment. Optionally the system may open the vehicle compartment in response to a detection of an occupant and the sensed conditions. The safety system includes a false trigger protection means that limits or reduces false detections of a person or animal within the compartment.
Abstract:
Pyroelectric detector systems may be used in vehicles for security applications, such as intrusion detection and anti-theft alarms. The pyroelectric detectors are small in size, highly reliable and consume very low power. They can be physically and electrically integrated with other vehicle components, including rear-view mirror assemblies in automobiles, without incurring additional installation costs. They can also be easily integrated into aircraft cockpits.
Abstract:
Edge busbars on a substantial perimeter of an electrochromic device are disclosed having electrical paths wrapping over the perimeter edge. Internal busbars interior from the perimeter are disclosed which lower the conductivity of the conductive layer of an electrochromic device. Signals supplied to the busbars to control the electrochromic device are controlled by a switching power supply that allows the maintaining of the color of the electrochromic device without application of continuous power.

Abstract:
A sanding tool is disclosed that can be used to remove a raised defect or imperfection from a painted surface. The sanding tool includes a base that defines an arcuate guide surface configured to be placed in contact with the base. In general, the base supports a sanding element for movement with respect to the base in a sanding motion. The guide surface maintains the sanding element at a desired position with respect to the painted surface while the sanding element moves in the sanding motion. An offset of the sanding element with respect to the guide surface can be selectively adjusted in certain embodiments. In some embodiments the guide surface is defined by first and second prongs spaced apart widthwise of the base, with the sanding element mounted between the prongs. A convex oscillating point sanding element is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A thumb tab actuator for a firearm sling snap-hook is provided. The thumb tab actuator includes a body having a surface that engages a lever of a snap-hook that pivots in a first plane. The actuator body is adapted to be removably mounted to the lever, and the body includes a tab extending outwardly in a second plane transverse to the first plane when the body is mounted to the lever, such that the lever pivots in response to a force exerted on the tab. A user may couple the thumb tab to the snap-hook via a screw or other fastener. In some embodiments, the thumb tab includes a second tab for an ambidextrous configuration.
Abstract:
A sling for coupling a firearm to a user is disclosed. The sling comprises a front sling section having a front end and a rear end, a front connector located at the front end for connecting the front sling section to the firearm, and a front buckle having a handle that adjusts the length of the sling. The handle includes a first member extending outwardly from the front sling section and a second member transverse to first member, such that, when the second member is pulled in a first direction, the length of front sling section lengthens, and when the second member is pulled in a second direction, the length of the front sling section shortens. The sling further comprises rear sling section coupled to the front sling section and having a front portion and a rear portion, a rear buckle detachably coupling the front portion to the rear portion, a rear connector for connecting the rear sling section to the firearm, and a middle connector. The front connector releasably couples to the middle connector to form a loop.
