The invention relates to a process for the continuous preparation of toluenediamine by liquid-phase hydrogenation of dinitrotoluene by means of hydrogen in the presence of a suspended, nickel-comprising catalyst in a reactor with a product isolation unit downstream of the reactor to give a product output from the reactor comprising a liquid phase comprising toluenediamine and dinitrotoluene, in which the nickel-comprising catalyst is suspended, wherein the concentration of dinitrotoluene in the liquid phase of the product output from the reactor in the region between the reactor and the downstream product isolation unit is set to a value in the range from 1 to 200 ppm by weight, based on the total weight of the liquid phase of the product output from the reactor.

A clay comprising a 2:1 aluminosilicate clay having negative charge sites, the 2:1 aluminosilicate clay containing subnano-sized zero valent iron (ZVI) particles distributed on clay surfaces is provided. In one embodiment, at least some or all of the particles have a cross-section of five (5) angstroms or less. Methods of synthesizing and the novel clays and the clay-templated subnano-scale ZVI particles themselves are also described. Such novel products are useful in a variety of remediation applications, including for reduction and dechlorination reactions.

The catalytic mixture resulting of a metal powder catalyst with a solid material (referred to here as a reaction-aid) that has good filtering properties, does not interfere with the reaction, does not interfere with recycling the catalyst back into the reaction, does not interfere with the refining and recovery of the metal from the catalyst after it is spent, and will not become separated from the catalyst during the preparation of this catalytic mixture, the chemical reaction or the separation of this catalytic mixture from the reaction medium, whereas the ratio of the reaction aid to the catalyst ranges from 0.05 to 20 on a weight basis. A preferred metal powder catalyst is acetylene black supported precious metal. Preferred reaction aids are sibunit powder or activated carbon. The catalytic mixture can be used for the catalytic transformation of compounds, such as the hydrogenation of olefins, or the hydrogenation of nitro compounds.

A method produces 2,2′-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4′-diaminobiphenyl, wherein 2,2′-bis(trifluoromethyl)biphenyl is produced from o-chlorobenzotrifluoride, further, 2,2′-bis(trifluoromethyl)biphenyl is dinitrated in 1,2-dichloropropane solution, and 2,2′-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4′-dinitrobiphenyl is isolated and reduced. The method for producing of 2,2′-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4′-diaminobiphenyl is an industrially excellent method for producing with high safety and high production efficiency.

A composite material composed of nanoparticles of transition metal(s) and magnetic ferric oxide, a method of preparing the same, and uses of the same are provided. The composite material is substantially composed of nanoparticles of transition metal(s) or alloy thereof and nanoparticles of magnetic ferric oxide, the size of nanoparticles of transition metal(s) or alloy thereof is in the range of 0.7 to 5 nm, the size of nanoparticles of magnetic ferric oxide is in the range of 5 to 50 nm, and the amount of transition metal(s) or alloy thereof is in the range of 0.1 to 30 wt %, based on the total weight of composite material, the magnetic ferric oxide is gamma-Fe2O3, Fe3O4, complex obtained from gamma-Fe2O3 by partial reduction, or complex obtained from Fe3O4 by partial reduction. The composite material has a high reactivity and an extreme selectivity for industrial reaction of hydrogenating halogeno-nitro-aromaticics to obtain halogeno-arylamine, and has important industrial applicability because the problem such as hydrogenolysis-dehalogenation during preparing halogeno arylamine by hydrogenating halogeno-nitro-aromatics is fully resolved by using the composite materials.

A process for the production of aromatic amines which comprises the reduction of an aromatic compound containing at least two nitro groups with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst is disclosed. The reaction is carried out so as to maintain up to 10% by weight of reaction intermediates (aminonitrites) and the solution produced is treated to recover the aromatic amine with a purity of over 99% and a mixture consisting of aromatic amine and reaction intermediates is recycled to the reactor.

C. has a degree of reduction of at least 70%.
