摘要: Disclosed herein is a battery module comprising a plurality of battery cells encased in an outer shell. The outer shell has disposed on an inner surface a flame retardant layer that comprises expandable graphite. The expandable graphite is operative to expand during an thermal event that results in an increase in battery module temperature. Disclosed herein too is a method comprising disposing in a battery module a flame retardant layer; where the battery module comprises a plurality of battery cells encased in an outer shell. The outer shell has disposed on an inner surface a flame retardant layer that comprises expandable graphite. The expandable graphite is operative to expand during an thermal event that results in an increase in battery module temperature.

摘要: A fire suppression system for a battery pack includes a controller, an inlet line, an outlet line, a detector, a first pressure vessel with a first valve, and a second pressure vessel with a second valve. The pack includes: an inlet, battery modules housing battery cells, and an outlet. The inlet line connects to the pack inlet and the outlet line connects to the outlet. The detector senses a condition indicative of a fire event caused by a battery cell breaking and produces a signal. The controller, connected to the detector, determines a fire event is occurring based on the signal. The first vessel and the second vessel connect to the inlet line. A first suppressant flows from the first vessel into the pack when the controller opens the first valve. A second suppressant flows from the second vessel into the pack when the controller opens the second valve.

摘要: A cover assembly, a battery and an electronic device are provided. The cover assembly includes a cover body, a boss, and a heat-resistant sheet. A pressure relief hole is provided on the cover body. The boss is disposed on the top surface of the cover body, and surrounds the outer periphery of the pressure relief hole. The boss encloses a first region communicated with the pressure relief hole, and together with the pressure relief hole constitute an accommodation space. The heat-resistant sheet is disposed in the accommodation space and at least partially covers the pressure relief hole.

摘要: A thermal runaway protection method reduces thermal runaway for a battery pack. The battery pack includes: a housing defining a chamber; a cell group located in the chamber and having a pressure relief side; and a cooling component integrated into the housing and configured to cool the cell group in case of a temperature of at least part of the cell group higher than a preset temperature. The pressure relief side is spaced apart from an inner wall of the chamber to define an exhaust passage therebetween, and the exhaust passage is adapted to discharge gas generated by the cell group in case of thermal runaway of the cell group.
