Abstract:
A surface-emitting laser has an active layer between a first distributed Bragg reflector and a second distributed Bragg reflector. The first distributed Bragg reflector is formed so as to have a resonant mode and a first longitudinal mode different from the resonant mode included in the reflectivity stop band and a second longitudinal mode different from the resonant mode and the first longitudinal mode excluded from the reflectivity stop band. Oscillation is suppressed in the first longitudinal mode and in the second longitudinal mode. As a result, the surface-emitting laser can oscillate in a single longitudinal mode, suppressing longitudinal mode hopping.
Abstract:
In a sheet guide apparatus, a rotary guide body is supported to be rotatable and movable in directions to separate from and come close to the upper surface of a sheet. The outer surface of the rotary guide body comes into contact with the upper surface of the sheet to guide the sheet. A rotary guide body adjusting unit adjusts a position of the rotary guide body in directions to separate from and come close to the upper surface of the sheet. A plate-like guide body extends in the convey direction and lateral direction of the sheet, includes a guide surface which comes into contact with the upper surface of the sheet to guide the sheet, and is supported to be movable in the directions to separate from and come close to the upper surface of the sheet. A plate-like guide body adjusting unit adjusts a position of the plate-like guide body in the directions to separate from and come close to the upper surface of the sheet. The sheet contact portion on the outer surface of the rotary guide body is set below the guide surface of the plate-like guide body through at least one space portion which is formed in a downstream end of the plate-like guide body in the sheet convey direction to correspond to the rotary guide body.
Abstract:
An organic electroluminescence element has a layered structure on a surface of a transparent substrate. The layered structure comprises an organic material layer including a light-emitting organic material layer, an opaque electrode layer, an insulating layer, a metal layer and a resin film in order. The organic electroluminescence element is improved in durability because moisture is prevented from permeating into a light-emitting element.

A light emitting element array including an active layer commonly used for light emitting element regions, carrier injection layers which are electrically isolated from each other and which are provided in the respective light emitting element regions, and a resistive layer which has a resistance higher than that of the carrier injection layers and which is provided between the active layer and the carrier injection layers.
Abstract:
A cooling device has a case defining a first space through which a first fluid flows and a second space through which a second fluid having the temperature lower than that of the first fluid flows. A first heat exchanger is disposed in the first space for performing heat exchange between the first fluid and a refrigerant, thereby to evaporate the refrigerant. A second heat exchanger is disposed in the second space for performing heat exchange between the second fluid and the refrigerant evaporated in the first heat exchanger, thereby to transfer heat of the refrigerant to the second fluid. The case defines a first dimension in a first direction and a second dimension in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction in a transverse cross-section. The second dimension is larger than the first dimension. The first space and the second space are arranged in the second direction.
Abstract:
A heat exchanger is provided with a header tank having therein a circulation portion in which fluid flows, and multiple tubes which are stacked in a longitudinal direction of the header tank. The circulation portion is communicated with interiors of the tubes, and partitioned into an inlet side passage and other passages. An inflow port member is arranged at a longitudinal-direction end of the inlet side passage, and provided with multiple openings for causing at least a mainstream flow and a substream flow of fluid introduced toward the tubes. The mainstream flow is substantially evenly flow-divided by the substream flow.
Abstract:
The group III-V semiconductor device comprises a quantum well layer, barrier layers sandwiching the quantum well layer and a region of a third semiconductor material formed by spatially-selective intermixing of atoms on the group V sublattice between the first semiconductor material of the quantum well layer and the second semiconductor material of the barrier layer. The quantum well layer is a layer of a first semiconductor material that has a band gap energy and a refractive index. The barrier layers are layers of a second semiconductor material that has a higher band gap energy and a lower refractive index than the first semiconductor material. The third semiconductor material has a band gap energy and a refractive index intermediate between the band gap energy and the refractive index, respectively, of the first semiconductor material and the second semiconductor material.
Abstract:
An optical semiconductor device having an active layer for generating light via the recombination of holes and electrons therein. The active layer is part of a plurality of semiconductor layers including an n-p junction between an n-type layer and a p-type layer. The active layer has a polarization field therein having a field direction that depends on the orientation of the active layer when the active layer is grown. In the present invention, the polarization field in the active layer has an orientation such that the polarization field is directed from the n-layer to the p-layer.

Various asymmetric InGaAsN VCSEL structures that are made using an MOCVD process are presented. Use of the asymmetric structure effectively eliminates aluminum contamination of the quantum well active region.
Abstract:
The instant specification discloses a flat battery constituted by sealing a power generation element with: a case that works as one electrode terminal; a sealing plate that works as the other electrode terminal and has a flat central section projected outward and a flat peripheral section extending substantially parallel to the flat central section; and a gasket that insulates the case from the sealing plate, characterized in that the peripheral section of the sealing plate has an outer circumferential part being bent, or the case has a turned edge provided to make the peripheral section of the sealing plate fitted therein via the gasket and to partly press the gasket. The flat battery of the present invention having improvement in shape of the sealing plate and/or the case is sufficiently thin and exerts the effects of high leakage resistance and excellent mass productivity.
