    摘要: The presently disclosure describes a motion assistance system for a wheelchair, for example, a powered drive wheel system that can continually drive a wheelchair in a circular or elliptical path. The motion assistance system comprises a mounting mechanism attachable to one or more structural elements of the wheelchair, and a drive linkage pivotable with respect to the mounting mechanism. A drive wheel can be mounted to an end of the drive linkage such that the drive wheel contacts the ground when installed on the wheelchair. The drive wheel comprises a plurality of lateral rollers positioned radially about the circumference of the power drive wheel. The lateral rollers can rotate about an axis tangential to the circumference of the drive wheel in order to facilitate driving the wheelchair in a radial direction.

    摘要: An article movement system includes an article and at least one ball wheel. The article has first and second article surfaces meeting at a first article edge. The ball wheel is located along the first article edge and includes a ball, a bearing arrangement and a shell. The ball engages a surface underlying the article, the bearing arrangement supports the ball for omni-directional rotational movement, and the shell is located along the first article edge and contains the ball and the bearing arrangement. The shell defines a non-circular ball opening through which a portion of the ball extends to contact the underlying surface. The article, the bearing arrangement and the shell are configured such that the ball wheel is able to support the article for omni-directional rolling motion over the underlying surface with either of the first and article surfaces parallel thereto, and at any orientation therebetween.

    摘要: An omnidirectional wheel including a rim with at least one plate member and a means of attaching the wheel to a vehicle; a plurality of rollers comprising at least two toroidal rows of rollers disposed around the rim for mounting a tire; and a means of actuating the tire around its axis, defined, for example, by the never-ending torus axial member of the tire, whereby, when the wheel is engaging the ground, the tire rolling on the rim causes a side movement of the wheel, parallel to the wheel axis, in a plan orthogonal to the normal plan of rotation of the wheel when attached to the vehicle. A tire having a never-ending torus axial member, a helical bearing member, and a resilient toroidal shape is also provided.
