Abstract:
A Hydroseed substrate for mixing with other ingredients such as water, seeds, fertilizer, wetting agents and dye, to produce Hydroseeding slurry is disclosed. The substrate includes cellulose materials (e.g. cardboard, paper and/or wood) and an absorbent. The absorbent is a super absorbent polymer such as linear polyacrylamide (—CH2CHCONH2—) or copolymers of acrylamide (C3H5NO) polymers. The super absorbent polymer improves moisture retention, improves viscosity, reduces friction, and improves coverage of the hydroseed mixture.
Abstract:
Thermoplastic compositions containing a natural filler and, more specifically, thermoplastic compositions containing a natural filler and having improved thermal and weathering resistance. The wood-plastic composites utilize a cellulose filler, such as wood flour, and vegetal fibers, such as Curauá fiber, as a reinforcement filler. The issues with regard to thermal degradation of cellulose during processing are reduced through the use of specific additives designed to improve its performance during processing. Additionally, other additives are included to improve the UV resistance. Specific combinations of thermal stabilizer and UV additive are provided that enhance the thermal resistance and weathering resistance of the compositions as compared to prior art systems.
Abstract:
This invention relates to novel whitening agents for cellulosic substrates. The whitening agents are comprised of at least two components: at least one chromophore component and at least one polymeric component. Suitable chromophore components generally fluoresce blue, red, violet, or purple color when exposed to ultraviolet light, or they may absorb light to reflect these same shades. The whitening agents are further characterized by having a dispersion component value of the Hansen Solubility Parameter of less than or equal to about 17 MPa0.5. This invention also relates to laundry care compositions including but not limited to liquid and/or powder laundry detergent formulations and rinse added fabric softening (RAFS) compositions that comprise such whitening agents.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to water soluble quaternized chitosan derivatives which form hydrogel matrix with broad antimicrobial properties for the protection and coating of medical device. Hydrogel is attractive as an antimicrobial coating since its hydrophilicity intrinsically prevents the reversible nonspecific attachment of microbes. In order to achieve hydrogel formation, quaternized chitosan can be grafted with polymerizable groups, especially photocrosslinkable groups, such as methacrylates, PEG derivatives and be converted into hydrogels through a thermal or UV polymerization process. Hydrogels are hydrated cross-linked polymeric systems that contain water in an equilibrium state forming cushion water shield. The present invention is widely used in many medical devices for example biomedical devices such as contact lenses, bio-implants such as urinary catheters, pacemaker, heart valves, artificial heart, mammary prosthesis, intraocular lenses, wound dressings, artificial organs and delivery carriers for the bioactive reagents, total joint replacement due to their high degree of biocompatibility, antimicrobial property and good wetting characteristics. This invention describes the formation of novel hydrogels based on quaternized ammonium chitosan derivatives which has been grafted with photocrosslinkable groups, hence providing hydrogels as antimicrobial water shield coating agent.
Abstract:
Provided are filled polyimides that can be used in films and articles comprising the films. The films are useful in coverlay applications and have advantageous optical properties. Also provided are blends of polyimide precursor, polyacrylonitrile, and cellulosic polymer which can be used to obtain the filled polyimides.
Abstract:
Object of the present invention is to provide an acrylic-resin-containing film which exhibits high transparency, high heat resistance, and markedly improved brittleness, a polarizing plate using the acrylic-resin-containing film which improves a yield of operation such as punching of a polarizing plate or bonding panels and a liquid crystal display device which can keep to exhibit excellent visibility in long-terms usage in harsh environment. These objects have been achieved by the acrylic-resin-containing film comprising a acrylic resin (A) and a cellulose ester resin (B), or comprising the acrylic resin (A), the cellulose ester resin (B) and at least a resin (D) which is other than the resins (A) and (B) and has a glass transition temperature Tg of 120-300° C. The film is characterized in that it has a haze of less than 2%, a tensile softening point of 120-150° C. and undergoes no ductile fracture.

Abstract:
An absorbent wound care device includes two or more materials which individually do not gel when exposed to a fluid but do gel when brought together and exposed to a fluid. The device is particularly intended for haemostatic use and for absorbing bodily fluids being emitted from wounds and physiological target sites.
