Tall oil heads may be used in lieu of, or in combination with, conventional fatty acids in the compounding and curing of vulcanizable rubber. Tall oil heads inherently contain a significant amount of neutral materials, and their incorporation into a pre-vulcanized rubber composition allows the compounder to incorporate less aromatic oil into the composition. The composition may be made by a method comprising compounding a mixture comprising a vulcanizable elastomer, a sulfur source, and Tall Oil Heads (TOH), the TOH comprising 40-75 wt % fatty acids and greater than 10 wt % neutral materials, and heating the compounded mixture to a temperature sufficient to cause substantial crosslinking of the elastomer.

A rubber composition includes (1) a diene rubber, (2) a silica and (3) an epoxidized liquid diene rubber having a number-average molecular weight of 10000 to 100000, wherein based on 100 parts by mass of the diene rubber (1), the rubber composition comprises 0.1 to 150 parts by mass of the silica (2) and 0.1 to 30 parts by mass of the epoxidized liquid diene rubber (3). A crosslinkable rubber composition includes the above rubber composition and crosslinking agent. A crosslinked article is prepared by crosslinking the above crosslinkable rubber composition. The rubber compositions have improved silica dispersibility in the case of mixing a silica with a diene rubber, excellent processability, and excellent mechanical properties after crosslinking.

The present invention provides a solid golf ball comprising a hot-molded product of a rubber composition comprising (a) 100 parts by weight of a polybutadiene synthesized using a rare-earth catalyst and having a cis-1,4 content of at least 60% and a 1,2 vinyl content of at most 2%, having a viscosity η at 25° C. as a 5 wt % solution in toluene of up to 600 mPa·s, and having Mooney viscosity (ML1+4 (100° C.)) of more than 30, (b) 0.01 to 0.5 parts by weight of a sulfur, (c) 10 to 60 parts by weight of an unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or a metal salt thereof, (d) 0.1 to 5 parts by weight of an organosulfur compound, (e) 5 to 80 parts by weight of an inorganic filler, and (f) 0.1 to 5 parts by weight of an organic peroxide, wherein the hot-molded product has a difference in JIS-C hardness between the center and surface thereof of more than 20 and up to 40. The solid golf balls of the invention have a soft feel upon impact and excellent rebound characteristics. Moreover, the solid golf balls are improved in flight performance by making its spin rate reduced when shot with a driver.

Non thixotropic, aqueous emulsions prepared from rubber modified asphalt cement (RMAC). The RMAC is prepared by a method whereby recycled tire rubber is liquified or otherwise consumed by or incorporated into asphalt such that no more than 2% by weight of solid particulate rubber remains. The RMAC may be emulsified in an aqueous or partially aqueous emulsification solution using a one-step or multi-step emulsification process. These aqueous RMAC emulsions are useable in many applications including paving, seal coat, roofing and slurry seal applications.
