The present invention relates to a novel insertion material intended for widening the gingival crevice. According to the invention, this material consists of a hydrophilic paste comprising, expressed as percentage by weight relative to the total weight of the material: between 5 and 15% of an astringent; between 25 and 50% of a specifically chosen texturizing agent; between 30 and 60% of water; and between 0 and 20% of a humectant; the total amount of water and humectant being between 35 and 65% by weight relative to the total weight of the material; said insertion material having the following release profile for the astringent: less than 20% of astringent released after 5 min; less than 40% of astringent released after 10 min; less than 50% of astringent released after 15 min; less than 60% of astringent released after 30 min; less than 80% of astringent released after 60 min.

Improved compositions comprising a mixture of particulate bone growth material and polymeric carrier are provided. The particulate is preferably porous, resorbable, anorganic bone material. The polymeric carrier can be light-cured to form a cross-linked, biodegradable hydrogel. In one version, the bone growth material is a synthetic peptide bound to anorganic bone matrix particles and the carrier is methacrylated sodium hyaluronate (MHy) or methacrylated hydroxyethylcellulose (MHEC). The composition is particularly suitable for repairing defective dental and orthopedic bone tissue. The particulate and hydrogel carrier are biodegradable so the composition can be replaced by new bone formation over time.

The premixed cement paste remains fluid when stored in a hermetically sealed condition, but hydrates and hardens to set when placed in a physiological environment. The cement paste includes at least one calcium silicate compound and at least one substantially water-free liquid carrier mixed with the at least one calcium silicate compound; the substantially water-free liquid carrier avoids hydration of the mixture during storage, but undergoes exchange with aqueous physiological solutions so that the cement past hydrates and hardens to set when placed in a physiological environment. The paste may be placed in the physiological environment by injection, for example. The at least one calcium silicate compound may be, for example, calcium silicate, dicalcium silicate, tricalcium silicate, or mixtures thereof. The substantially water-free liquid may be, for example, ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, liquid glycerol, glycerin, ethyl alcohol, vegetable oil, animal oil, silicon oil, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, or mixtures thereof. The substantially water-free liquid carrier preferably includes water in an amount less than about 20% by weight percent of the paste. The paste may include a secondary phase for enhanced properties, such as, for example, a fibrous or particulate material for enhanced mechanical properties, biodegradable or soluble materials that provide room for bone in-growth, bioactive materials such as antibiotics that elute into the physiological environment from the set cement, and radio-opaque materials that enhance X-ray imaging of the cement.

A dental paste-like porcelain is disclosed, including a mixture in a paste-like state of from 7 to 45 parts by weight of a binder comprising a synthetic and/or natural, hydrophilic group-containing polymeric material dissolved in one or two or more organic solvents selected from a dihydric or trihydric alcohol, a hydroxyl group-remaining ether and a hydroxy(meth) acrylate, and/or water and having a viscosity, as measured at a constant temperature of 23° C. and at a conversion constant of 1.61×104 under the conditions that a revolution number is 1 rpm, of from 50,000 to 1,500,000 cps, andaporcelain powder as a remainder, with a total amount being 100 parts by weight. The dental paste-like porcelain according to the invention does not require a condensation procedure. Accordingly, even a beginner can easily carry out the porcelain application of prostheses over a wide range including from a single crown to a bridge, without necessity of the skill. Further, since the dental paste-like porcelain of the present invention is a paste having no porosity incorporated therein and is stable during the present preservation over a long period of time. Moreover, it is hardly dried and hardened during the use and enables to grasp the shade.

The calcium phosphate cement comprises a calcium phosphate powder having an average particle diameter of 20 .mu.m or smaller and a tap density of 35% or higher, and a polysaccharide. The polysaccharide is preferably a dextran sulfate (e.g., dextran sulfate sodium) having an average particle diameter of 0.1 to 100 .mu.m. The calcium phosphate cement composition comprises the above specific calcium phosphate powder and a liquid for cement mixing comprising an aqueous solution containing 30 to 60 wt % dextran sulfate (e.g., dextran sulfate sodium or dextran sulfate potassium). The calcium phosphate powder preferably comprises a tetracalcium phosphate powder and an equimolar amount of a calcium hydrogen phosphate powder as main components.
