The present invention relates to a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis process and system. The process comprises: a) introducing a feedstock gas containing CO and H2 into a first stage Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reactor to carry out a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reaction; b) separating products of the first stage Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reaction, to separate water from the unconverted tail gas and to obtain hydrocarbon products and the unconverted tail gas; c) introducing the unconverted tail gas obtained in Step b) into a second stage Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reactor to carry out a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reaction; d) separating products of the second stage Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reaction, to separate water from the unconverted tail gas, with a portion of the unconverted tail gas of the second stage Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reaction being returned to the second stage Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reactor for recycle reactions. The process and system are suitable for large-scale industrialized production.

The ratio of the quantity of multifunctional carboxylic acid used relative to the support surface area is at least 0.3 μmol carboxylic acid/m2 of support surface area. Simultaneously with the introduction of the carboxylic acid into and/or onto the catalyst support, or subsequent thereto, a cobalt compound is introduced into and/or onto the catalyst support. The impregnated support is calcined to obtain the cobalt based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis catalyst precursor.

A method is provided for converting synthesis gas to liquid hydrocarbon mixtures useful as distillate fuel and/or lube base oil. The synthesis gas is contacted with a synthesis gas conversion catalyst comprising a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis component in an upstream catalyst bed thereby producing an intermediate hydrocarbon mixture containing olefins and C21+ normal paraffins. The intermediate hydrocarbon mixture is subsequently contacted with a hydroisomerization catalyst and an olefin saturation catalyst, thereby resulting in a product containing no greater than about 25 wt % olefins and containing no greater than about 5 wt % C21+ normal paraffins. The hydroisomerization and olefin saturation catalysts may be in separate beds or mixed in a single bed downstream of the synthesis gas conversion catalyst.

Cryptomelane-type manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieves (OMS-2) supported Fe and Co catalysts are utilized in a method for producing hydrocarbons by a Fischer-Tropsch mechanism. The hydrocarbon producing method includes providing a catalyst of a manganese oxide-based octahedral molecular sieve nanofibers with an active catalyst component of at least one of iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, manganese, vanadium, zinc, and mixtures thereof, and further containing an alkali metal. The formation of iron carbides and cobalt carbides by exposing the catalyst to conditions sufficient to form those carbides is also taught. After the catalyst has been appropriately treated, a carbon source and a hydrogen source are provided and contacted with the catalyst to thereby form a hydrocarbon containing product. The catalyst have high catalytic activity and selectivity (75%) for C2+ hydrocarbons in both CO hydrogenation and CO2 hydrogenation. Highly selective syntheses of high value jet fuel, C2-C6 alkenes, C2-C6 carboxylic acids; α-hydroxylic acids and their derivatives have been realized by tuning the oxidation ability of OMS-2 supports and by doping with Cu2+ ions.
