Abstract:
A fire-resistant grease comprises a fire-resistant base oil and graphitic carbon or oleophilic graphite as a thickener. Suitable base oils include fire-resistant hydraulic fluids, particularly phosphorus acid esters or amides and more particularly trihydrocarbyl phosphates. The graphitic carbon may be of the type described in U.K. Pat. No. 1,252,582 (U.S. Pat. No. 3,532,625) and the oleophilic graphite as described in U.K. Pat. No. 1,168,784 (U.S. Pat. No. 3,384,583). The thickener contact may be 1-20% wt of the grease, preferably 2-10% wt, and the grease may contain conventional additives.
Abstract:
This invention relates to the use of chelated lithium hydridoaluminates or hydridoborates in hydride reductions of inorganic substrates. Novel or improved reductions are obtained at increased rates or selectivities in hydrocarbon media to recover metals.
Abstract:
Chelated lithium aluminum compounds are prepared by mixing a lithium aluminum compound such as a lithium aluminum hydride with a chelating agent wherein the agent contains at least one nitrogen atom. The chelating agent is a tertiary polyamine or aminoether. The resultant chelate is used for a variety of processes such as separations, catalytic reactions, substitution reactions, reductions, electrochemical reactions, and also as an oil and fuel additive.
Abstract:
Phosphate salts are prepared by reacting a triaryl phosphate and an aliphatic amine in the presence of a catalytic amount of boric acid. Certain of the phosphate salts are useful as additives for lubricating oils.
Abstract:
The oxidation resistance of synthetic ester base functional fluids is enhanced by incorporating in the fluid small amounts of triphenylphosphine or triphenylphosphine oxide together with a complex alkali metal organophosphorus compound.
Abstract:
A functional fluid composition consisting essentially of (1) a phosphate ester containing at least two alkyl groups such as tributyl phosphate or dibutyl phenyl phosphate, in combination with a phosphate ester containing at least two aromatic groups, such as n-butyl diphenyl phosphate or tricresyl phosphate, (2) a combination of at least two polyalkylene glycol materials, e.g. two polypropylene glycol ethers having substantially different molecular weights, and (3) a small amount of an epoxide, in the form of an ester or polyester of 4,5-epoxy-1,2-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid, e.g., poly(ethylene-.DELTA..sup.4 -epoxy tetrahydrophthalate), such epoxide preventing acid build-up in the fluid, and preventing undesirable deposits particularly when such fluid is employed as an aircraft hydraulic fluid.

Abstract:
Functional fluid compositions comprising a major amount of a base stock material which is an ester or amide of an acid phosphorus, a di- or tricarboxylic acid ester, an ester of a polyhydric compound or mixtures thereof, optionally minor amounts of other base stock materials or base stock modifiers such as viscosity index improvers, cavitation damage inhibitors, and lubricity agents, and an additive amount of an acid scavenger and corrosion inhibitor which is a monoepoxy substituted cyclohexane such as C.sub.1-4 alkyl-3,4-epoxycyclohexane. The compositions are particularly useful as aircraft hydraulic fluids.
Abstract:
