摘要： The present invention is directed to a coating composition which includes a component A and component B. Component A is either an emulsion or dispersion having a hydrophobic elastomer stabilized with at lease one emulsifier. Component B is a dispersion or solution of a hydrophilic polymer which is insoluble in water, swellable in water and soluble in one or more water-miscible solvents. The hydrophobic elastomers may be polymers or copolymers of butadiene, isoprene, chloroprene, styrene, acrylonitrile, ethylene, propylene, isobutylene, alkylacrylates and alkylmethacrylates; polyrethanes, polyureas, polysiloxanes, elastomeric polyamides and polyesters. The hydrophilic polymers may be segmented polyurethanes, segmented polyures, segmented polyesters, partially hydrolyzed poly(vinyl acetate), partially hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile, partially aminolyzed polyacrylonitrile, and ethylene glycol monomethacrylate. An optional Component C may be included which could be organic diluents and plasticizers; surfactants; water-soluble polymeric additives; inorganic or organic salts; pigments; fillers; biocides; UV-absorbers; preservatives; and particulate covalently cross-linked hydrogels.

摘要： A hydrophilic coating composition used to impart increased lubricity and wettability to the surface of a hydrophobic substrate which is comprised of three essential components: 1) Hydrogel-forming polymer component A 2) Water-soluble polymer component B 3) Common solvent C for the components A and B The water-insoluble, hydrogel-forming component A consists of a segmented copolymer with long, hydrophilic terminal blocks and the essentially hydrophobic central section. The two polymer components A and B have a limited miscibility in the absence of a common solvent C. Therefore, their blend tends to separate spontaneously into two polymer phases. The phase separation takes place during the solvent evaporation or extraction. A gradient of hydrophilicity and swelling within the coating layer is thus spontaneously created achieving a good adhesion to the substrate and high surface hydrophilicity at the same time.

摘要： Adhesive composition for adhering rubber and fiber which make synthetic fibers highly adhesive to rubber even when a reduced amount of the composition is applied to the fibers; rubber-reinforcing synthetic fibers coated with the adhesive composition to have improved adhesiveness to rubber while retaining the intrinsic characteristics of the synthetic fibers themselves; and fiber-reinforced rubber structures where the rubber has been reinforced by the rubber-reinforcing synthetic fibers. The adhesive composition contains, adhesive matrix and a silicate compound, the silicate compound comprising silicon and magnesium at a ratio by weight of silicon/magnesium of from 1/0.1 to 1/1.0. Preferably, a 1% aqueous dispersion of the silicate compound has a transmittance of about 50% or more and/or a 2% aqueous dispersion of the silicate compound has a thixotropy index of from about 2.0 to 10.0. The silicate compound is preferably a smectite.

摘要： Cellulose ether derivatives comprising a hydrophobic substituent having an unsaturated alkyl portion are disclosed. The unsaturation in the alkyl portion of the hydrophobic substituent can promote crosslinking of the cellulose ether derivative. The cellulose ether derivatives are useful as ingredients in latex compositions. The cellulose ether derivatives can provide associative thickening and rheological properties to latex composition during storage and application. In addition, after the latex composition is applied to the surface to be coated, the cellulose ethers of the present invention can promote crosslinking of the latex film to provide a hard and durable coating. Latex paint compositions comprising the cellulose ether derivatives of the present invention are also disclosed.

摘要： The disclosed aqueous binder system has a pot life of more than 15 minutes at room temperature and is normally stored as a two-part system. The first part comprises an alkali metal silicate, and the second part comprises a coreactant metal salt of marginal water solubility (at room temperature and neutral pH) which provides reactive divalent metal ions. A rubber latex is normally included in one or both parts, preferably the coreactant (second) part. Preferred coreactants are metal salts of Group II, A or B of the Periodic Table, particularly phosphates, carbonates, or borates of magnesium and zinc. A preferred method of application involves blending the two-part system, spraying it onto a surface, and permitting the sprayed material to cure to a water-resistant layer having a Barcol hardness of at least 10. A low density inorganic filler can be incorporated into the coating to reduce its density below 0.4 g/cc and to provide better insulative properties.
