In the aggregate particles, oxide films containing cristobalite are provided on surfaces of particle bodies that are silicon carbide particles or silicon nitride particles. The binding material contains cordierite and binds the aggregate particles together in a state where pores are provided therein. The mass ratio of the cordierite to the whole of the porous material is in the range of 10 to 40 mass %. The oxide films that exist between the particle bodies and the binding material have a thickness less than or equal to 0.90 μm.

A ceramic material for radome is illustrated comprising: —about 80-95% (% wt) of Si3N4; about 5-15% (wt %) of magnesium aluminosilicates including 2.5-12.5% (wt %) of SiO2, 0.5-3% (wt %) of MgO and 2-6% (wt %) of Al2O3; and having a density not lower than 2.5 g/cm3 and a dielectric constant not exceeding 6.5. A process for producing a radome is also illustrated.

A thickness t1 of the partition walls constituting the first region is 0.11 mm or less, a thickness t2 of the partition walls constituting the second region is larger than the thickness t1 of the partition walls, a ratio (t3/t1) between a thickness t3 of the partition walls forming first complete cells from the outermost periphery of the honeycomb structure body toward a center thereof in the second region and the thickness t1 of the partition walls is from 1.2 to 1.4, and a partition wall strength index A is 4.0 or more.

The present invention provides a silicon nitride sintered body comprising a silicon nitride crystalline particle and a grain boundary phase, the silicon nitride sintered body having an area ratio of the grain boundary phase per 100 μm×100 μm unit area of 15 to 35% when an arbitrary cross section thereof is photographed. Further, it is preferable that the area ratio of the grain boundary phase per 100 μm×100 μm unit area is 15 to 25%. Furthermore, the silicon nitride sintered body is suitable for a wear resistant member. Due to above structure, there can be provided a silicon nitride sintered body and a wear resistant member having a high processability (workability) and an excellent sliding property.

The composition may exhibit properties that provide a material useful in a variety of applications that can benefit from improved wear characteristics.
