Abstract:
A two-dimensional magneto-optical trap (2D GMOT) that is configured to produce a cold-atom beam exiting the 2D GMOT is disclosed. In embodiments, the 2D GMOT includes an input light beam having its direction along a first axis, its width along a second axis, normal to the first axis, and a substantially flat input light beam intensity profile. 2D GMOT may further includes a quadrupole magnetic field with its magnitude being zero along a third axis that is centered at the center of the input light beam's width. The 2D GMOT may also include a diffraction-grating surface positioned normal to the first axis, composed of closely adjacent parallel grooves spread across the width and run parallel to the third axis.
Abstract:
An apparatus for dual side control includes a measurement module that measures a voltage and a current of an IPT system. The voltage includes an output voltage and/or an input voltage and the current includes an output current and/or an input current. The output voltage and the output current are measured at an output of the IPT system and the input voltage and the input current measured at an input of the IPT system. The apparatus includes a max efficiency module that determines a maximum efficiency for the IPT system. The max efficiency module uses parameters of the IPT system to iterate to a maximum efficiency. The apparatus includes an adjustment module that adjusts one or more parameters in the IPT system consistent with the maximum efficiency calculated by the max efficiency module.
Abstract:
An apparatus for zero voltage switching is disclosed. A system and method also perform the functions of the apparatus. The apparatus includes an MCT region module that defines a minimum current trajectory (“MCT”) for operation between a maximum positive power output to a maximum negative power output of a bidirectional DC-to-DC converter. The converter includes a dual active bridge series resonant converter. The MCT defines a boundary between a zero voltage switching (“ZVS”) region and a hard switching region. The apparatus includes an offset module that defines an offset to the MCT, the offset in the ZVS region, and an MCT control module that adjust switching of switches of the converter to maintain operation of the converter in the ZVS region between the maximum positive power output to a maximum negative power output along a trajectory defined by the MCT and the offset.
Abstract:
A linear-motion stage that is angularly or radially symmetric or asymmetric, or monolithic may be used as the moving mechanism in a Fourier transform spectrometer. In embodiments, a linear-motion stage includes a base; a first multiple-arm linkage extending from the base to a first carriage attachment piece; and a second multiple-arm linkage extending from the first carriage attachment piece to the base. The first multiple-arm linkage constrains a motion of the first carriage attachment piece to motion in a first plane and the second multiple-arm linkage constrains the first carriage attachment piece to motion in a second plane, the first and second planes intersecting at a plane intersection line. The first and second multiple-arm linkages constrain the motion of the first carriage attachment piece along a carriage motion line.
Abstract:
A system includes a first stage of an inductive power transfer system with an LCL load resonant converter with a switching section, an LCL tuning circuit, and a primary receiver pad. The IPT system includes a second stage with a secondary receiver pad, a secondary resonant circuit, a secondary rectification circuit, and a secondary decoupling converter. The secondary receiver pad connects to the secondary resonant circuit. The secondary resonant circuit connects to the secondary rectification circuit. The secondary rectification circuit connects to the secondary decoupling converter. The second stage connects to a load. The load includes an energy storage element. The second stage and load are located on a vehicle and the first stage is located at a fixed location. The primary receiver pad wirelessly transfers power to the secondary receiver pad across a gap when the vehicle positions the secondary receiver pad with respect to the primary receiver pad.
Abstract:
Embodiments of full-duplex systems with reconfigurable antennas are described. In one embodiment, a full-duplex reconfigurable antenna transceiver includes a transmit chain, a receive chain, and a reconfigurable antenna having a plurality of reconfigurable modes. The transceiver may also include an antenna controller configured to set a mode of the reconfigurable antenna. According to other aspects, the transceiver may also include a signal processor configured to transmit a set of training symbols during a training interval. The antenna controller may be further configured to select a respective mode of the reconfigurable antenna for each training symbol in the set of training symbols. Additionally, the antenna controller may be configured to calculate a received Signal-of-Interest to Interferer Ratio (SIR) for each training symbol of the set of training symbols. In this context, a full-duplex system utilizing a reconfigurable antenna may achieve significant rate improvement compared to half-duplex systems.

Abstract:
An Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO) capable of rapid or broadband frequency tuning by non-mechanical or mechanical means includes a resonant cavity with one or more non-linear crystals in an optical path thereof. The non-linear crystals may be driven by actuators. A pump laser pulse is transmitted into the resonant cavity with one or more seed beams having a desired wavelength. The output beam from the resonant cavity may have the same center wavelength as the one or more seed beams which may be modulated at a frequency larger than that of the pump laser, or the inverse of the pulse duration. The OPO may be used in Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) or Differential Absorption LIDAR (DIAL) analysis by intra-pulse modulation of output to measure absorption at multiple frequencies for each pulse of a pump beam. Sum Frequency Generator configurations may be suitable for narrow and broadband UV generation.
