Abstract: This invention relates to a process of treating hydrated chromium oxides with aqueous base(s) in the presence of dispersing agent(s) to form upon dehydration a virtually sediment-free oil solution and/or dispersion of hydrated chromium oxide in amounts up to about 20% chromium content. The product formed is a stable, bright, fluid oil-soluble and/or oil-dispersible hydrated chromium oxide upon filtration or centrifugation to remove minimal sediment.

Abstract: In a hydraulic liquid energy absorbing device for use in low impact bumpers for vehicles, a hydraulic gelled liquid (damping media) comprising a low viscosity petroleum oil, having dispersed therein up to about 20 percent of a modified organophylic montmorillonite (Bentone), and sufficient dispersant such as methanol; said damping media having an unworked penetration of about 225-300 at 77*F. It can contain a small amount of a dispersed polymer such as polybutene, polyisobutene, polybutadiene, polyisoprene, polystyrene, and rubber latex, and the like.

Abstract: A viscous resilient deformable grease composition having a penetration of about 250*-350 at 77*F., which develops a protective skin when exposed to air, comprising a lubricating oil having a viscosity range of 100-250 SSU at 210*F., thickened with an organophylic clay such as dimethyldioctodecyl ammonium montmorillonite, and containing a drying oil such as soya oil and a drier such as cobalt naphthenate. After homogenizing, this composition is an effective sealant, particularly for energy absorbing devices as used in automobile bumpers wherein bleeding of hydraulic fluid and moisture penetration are problems.
