摘要:
A heat insulating plate for use in a motor vehicle engine comprising a heat resisting metal plate adapted to be secured to an outer surface of the motor vehicle engine in slightly spaced apart relation with the outer surface of the motor vehicle engine at a portion heavily affected by heat from the motor vehicle engine and a vibration absorbing member comprising asbestos integrally joined to said heat resisting metal plate.

A loadbearing construction unit which is compression-resistant and bending-resistant and formed of at least one shell and associated support elements. The support elements comprise at least two plate or rodlike elements which are tensioned with respect to each other to obtain a compressive or tensile stress on the elements.

A high temperature insulating structure adapted for use in a vibratile structure such as a manifold reactor or the like for automobiles, said structure consisting of two walls defining therebetween a space filled with heat insulating material, said material being formed by firing a slurry prepared by mixing a water solution of a phosphate compound and a heat resisting material consisting of 20 - 70 % by weight of silicon dioxide, 15 - 80 % by weight of aluminium oxide, and 0 - 30 % by weight of magnesium oxide.

Spacing core materials, such as honeycomb, may be filled with fiberous insulation batting by placing the spacing core on a vibrator over the batting. The lower edges of the core cut through the fiberous material and permit it to fill the core. Additionally, a vacuum from the top side uniformly distributes the material in the core cells in an expanded condition.

A removable insulating cover for fluid containers consisting of two symmetrical portions which define a hood having oppositely disposed open and closed ends. The cover portions may be joined together by means of a zipper and are formed from multilayer material consisting of a closed cell polyurethane sandwiched between layers of polyvinyl chloride and a flexible insulating material.

A PROCESS FOR ECONOMICALLY FORMING MICRO CELLULAR, INORGANIC SILICATE FOAMS FOR USE IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND HAVING GOOD STRUCTURAL, THERMAL AND SOUND INSULATION PROPERTIES. THE PROCESS FOR FORMING SUCH FOAMS COMPRISES THE STEPS OF HYDRATING FINELY DIVIDED PARTICULATE SILICATES WITH WATER AND EXPANDING THE MASS BY INPUT OF THERMAL ENERGY. THE THERMAL ENERGY CAN BE PROVIDED BY A CONVENTIONAL HEAT SOURCE, BY A MICROWAVE ENERGY SOURCE OF BY DISSIPATION OF MECHANICAL ENERGY IN THE MATERIAL. THE SILICATE MAY BE SODIUM SILICATE AND THE SODIUM SILICATE MAY HAVE A RATIO OF SIO2 TO NA2O OF 1:1 TO 5:1 (OR MORE). THE HYDRATED MATERIAL MAY FURTHER COMPRISES OTHER ALKALI METAL SILICATES. IT MAY FURTHER CONTAIN COMPLEXING AGENTS TO INSOLUBILIZE THE RESULTING FOAM, AND OTHER ADDITIVES TO IMPART DESIRABLE PHYSICAL OR CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS. THIS METHOD CAN YIELD WATER RESISTANT OR INSOLUBLE SILICATE FOAMS OF MICROCELLULAR CLOSED CELL STRUCTURE, 2 TO 8 P.C.F. DENSITY, HIGH STRENGTH-TO-DENSITY RATIO, AND LOW THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY.

IMPROVED PLASTIC FOAM INSULATED ROOF STRUCTURES ARE PREPARED EMPLOYING A GENERALLY CONSTANT COMPOSITION COPOLYMER OF STYRENE AND MALEIC ANHYDRIDE CONTAINING FROM 15 TO 35 WEIGHT PERCENT MALEIC ANHYDRIDE, THE POLYMER HAVING A SOLUTION VISCOSITY OF FROM ABOUT 3 TO 12 CENTIPOISE (10 PERCENT SOLUTION OF THE POLYMER IN METHYLETHYLKETONE AT 25*C.).

Bodies of low specific gravity produced by coating a mass of roundish hollow granules, such as expanded or swelled polystyrene granules, with a hardenable liquid binder material, mixing the mass of thus coated granules with a pulverulent solid material so as to adhere particles of the solid material to the coating, and hardening the hardenable binder coating, and shaped cellular structures formed by compressing the mass of hardenable binder coated hollow granules having pulverulent material adhering to the coating during or prior to the hardening of the hardenable liquid binder material.
