    摘要: A system includes long-term storage (e.g., flash memory) for storing sensitive data and critical components of a consumer electronic (CE) device such as an operating system (OS) kernel, private cryptographic key values, security applications, and firmware configurations, for example. Security hardware/software designates and restricts access to secured portions of long-term storage that contain the critical components. Requests for access to these secured portions are addressed by the security hardware/software, which authenticates a cryptographic authorization code received with the request. Read-write access to the secured portions is allowed for download and installation of, for example, a software or firmware upgrade if the cryptographic authorization code is authenticated.

    摘要: A method is provided for transcoding between video signals in two standards, DV and MPEG-2, each standard including discrete cosine transform (DCT) compressed signals. The each of the signals have macroblocks containing a plurality of DCT blocks. The DCT blocks are quantized according to respective quantization methods defined by the standards. The coefficients in each block are zigzag scanned, run-length coded and variable-length coded. The process variable-length decodes the coefficients and translates the quantized coefficients in the DV standard into quantized coefficients in the MPEG standard without fully dequantizing at least some of the DV coefficients and without performing an inverse DCT operation on any of the DCT coefficients. DV blocks that are encoded in a 248 format are translated into an 88 format before they are converted to MPEG-2 blocks. A method for transcoding from MPEG-2 to DV is also described. The MPEG-2 signals are intra-frame encoded, have a 4:2:2 chrominance format and an 88 frame-encoded block format. According to this method, converted 88 DV blocks that represent significant intra-field motion are converted from the 88 format to a 248 format. The method also controls which overflow coefficients in the DV signal are transcoded into corresponding coefficients in the MPEG-2 signal to control the data rate of the MPEG-2 signal.

The terahertz source is a versatile terahertz device that can be configured to transmit a plurality of wavelengths, thereby facilitating the detection of multiple contaminants using a single source device. In one embodiment, the Smith-Purcell radiation effect is exploited by passing an electron beam over a modulated conducting surface, wherein the spacing of the periods of the modulated surface is varied. The variations in the modulated surface enable the source to produce light of varying wavelengths.

    摘要: A system (300) for combining a panning camera (308) with one or more displays (304), such as head-mounted displays, is provided. A panoramic view from an electronic panning camera may be provided to an electronic panning control circuit (510). The electronic panning control circuit may be responsive to a view selector (306), such as a head-tracker located on a user's HMD. The electronic panning circuit selects the desired portion of the panoramic view to send to the user's display. A stereoscopic, view providing for a depth-of-field effect simulating actual vision, stereo view is achieved by locating a first electronic panning camera (502) in an optically horizontally offset relation with a second electronic panning camera (504). An image splitter (510), such as a half silvered mirror, sends the same, slightly horizontally offset, to both cameras. Individually pannable views may be delivered to users via a communications network (312). One or more electronic panning cameras may output stereoscopic views to a communications network using high bandwidth lines (because the electronic panning cameras typically output a signal having a bandwidth equivalent to several video signals). The panoramic views may be received by local central offices (806) which include electronic panning circuits responsive to users' HMDs. The desired portions of the stereoscopic view may be extracted and sent to the user via conventional video bandwidth lines (because the selected views are typically equivalent to one or two video signals).
