摘要: An adhesive composition for use in devices and methods for measuring a presence or a concentration of a particular component, such as an antigen, in a sample, such as blood, are provided. In one exemplary embodiment of an adhesive composition, the composition includes an adhesive, water, a poloxamer, and an anticoagulant. The adhesive can include particular properties, such as being hydrophilic, pressure-sensitive, heat-activated, and/or water soluble. The adhesive is particularly useful because it can help improve the flow of sample a device. For example, when the device is an immunosensor, the adhesive can help prevent the blood from clotting in chambers of the immunosensor. This results in a more efficient and accurate determination of the concentration of the sample. Methods of making the composition and device in which the composition can be used are provided, as are methods of using the same.

摘要: An electrophoresis apparatus for processing compounds in small sample volumes comprising a cathode in a static cathode buffer zone or compartment, an anode in a static anode buffer zone or compartment. The cathode disposed relative to the anode so as to be adapted to generate an electric field in an electric field area therebetween upon application of a voltage potential between the cathode and anode. A removable cartridge disposed in the electric field area between the anode and the cathode. The cartridge containing a first non-isoelectric separation barrier and also a second non-isoelectric separation barrier disposed between a selected one of the cathode buffer zone and the anode buffer zone and the first barrier so as to define a first chamber having an interstitial volume of less than 5 ml therebetween.

摘要: A method of separating a blood clotting protein from a mixture of blood clotting protein and at least one contaminant, the method comprising: (a) placing a blood clotting protein and contaminant mixture in a first solvent stream, the first solvent stream being separated from a second solvent stream by a first electrophoretic membrane; (b) selecting a buffer for the first solvent stream being a pH greater than the isoelectric point of the blood clotting protein; (c) applying an electric potential between the first and second solvent streams causing movement of at least some of the contaminants through the membrane into the second solvent stream while the blood clotting protein is substantially retained in the first solvent stream, or if entering the membrane, being substantially prevented from entering the second solvent stream; (d) optionally periodically stopping and reversing the electric potential to cause movement of any blood clotting protein having entered the membrane to move back into the first solvent stream, wherein substantially not causing any contaminants that have entered the second solvent stream to re-enter first solvent stream; and (e) maintaining step (c) until the first solvent stream contains the desired purity of blood clotting protein substantially mimicking the characteristics of natural blood clotting protein.

摘要: Methods for determining the hematocrit of a blood sample, and devices and systems used in conjunction with the same. The hematocrit value can be determined on its own, and further, it can be further used to determine a concentration of an analyte in a sample. In one exemplary embodiment of a method for determining the hematocrit value in a blood sample, a volume of blood is provided in a sample analyzing device having a working and a counter electrode. An electric potential is applied between the electrodes and an initial fill velocity of the sample into the device is calculated. The hematocrit of the blood, as well as a concentration of an analyte in view of the initial fill velocity can then be determined. Systems and devices that take advantage of the use of an initial fill velocity to determine hematocrit levels and make analyte concentration determinations are also provided.

摘要: Disclosed herein are methods and devices for detecting the presence of an analyte of interest. A biosensor device can include a reaction chamber and an electrochemical detection chamber. The reaction chamber can include at least one immobilized binding site and a probe conjugate adapted to bind to at least one of the target analyte and the immobilized binding site while the detection chamber can include electrodes for detecting an electrochemical reaction. If present, the target analyte in the fluid sample results in a change in the amount of probe conjugate bound in the reaction chamber, which can be detected electrochemically in the detection chamber.
