Abstract:
A device for reconstituting a bioactive agent and forming a flowable paste is described. The device comprises a base configured for receiving: a first container containing a liquid, and a second container containing the bioactive agent, a syringe containing a paste forming material, the syringe being attachable to the base, wherein the base has a first conduit for fluidly connecting the first container with the second container and a second conduit for fluidly connecting the second container with the syringe, and wherein the first container is configured to be pressurizable such that when the first and second containers are received at the base, the liquid is forced through the first conduit into the second container, thereby reconstituting the bioactive agent, and the reconstituted bioactive agent is forced through the second conduit into the syringe, such that a paste is formed.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a method for preparing a haemostatic composition comprising thrombin, the method comprising the step of reconstituting a dry thrombin directly in a paste, such as a paste comprising a biocompatible polymer. The haemostatic composition comprising thrombin may be prepared from a dry thrombin composition and a paste in a single step operation and be used for treatment of a wound.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a method for vacuum expansion of a paste prior to freeze-drying said paste to achieve a dry paste composition which reconstitutes efficiently to form a flowable paste upon addition of an aqueous medium. The present disclosure further relates to a syringe for retaining a dry paste composition in a vacuum.

Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a laparoscopic applicator for dispensing a substance, e.g. a substance comprising a haemostatic agent, at a selected site by means of a surgical robotic arm, the laparoscopic applicator comprising a delivery tube; and an applicator tip connected to a distal end of the delivery tube, wherein the applicator tip is configured for being controllable operated by the robotic arm by a grip section in axial extension of the delivery tube, the grip section having a perimeter transverse to the axis comprising an apex shaped section, such that the grip section is configured for being clamped and spatially manipulated by the robotic arm.
Abstract:
The invention regards a device for reconstituting a bioactive agent and forming a paste, the device comprising: —a container (2) containing the bioactive agent, —a first syringe (4) containing a liquid, —a second syringe (5) containing a paste forming material, —a connector element (6) configured for establishing sequential fluid connections between 1) the first syringe and the container, 2) the container and the second syringe, and 3) the first and second syringes, such that the liquid can be transferred from the first syringe to the container to reconstitute the bioactive agent, whereupon the reconstituted bioactive agent can be transferred from the container into the second syringe to form a paste, and the paste can be transferred to the first syringe.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a syringe for mixing two substances which have been retained separately inside the syringe, for instance in a storage condition. In particular the present disclosure relates to a syringe for 1) retaining a dry composition in a vacuum, and 2) mixing the dry composition with an aqueous medium to form a flowable substance. One embodiment relates to a syringe for retaining and mixing first and second substances comprising: a barrel comprising a sealable and/or closable distal outlet and a vacuum chamber for holding a first substance, a plunger incorporating a reservoir chamber for holding a second substance and configured to be axially displaced through a proximal end of the barrel, a membrane separating the vacuum chamber and the reservoir chamber, and a pointed member, such as one or more needles, for penetrating the membrane.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a dry composition, which upon addition of an aqueous medium forms a substantially homogenous paste suitable for use in haemostasis procedures. The paste forms spontaneously upon addition of the liquid, hence no mechanical mixing is required for said paste to form. Further disclosed are methods of preparing said dry composition, a paste made from said dry composition and use of said paste for medical and surgical purposes.
