摘要: A flexible dampening intervertebral spacer (100) to replace a spinal disc comprising upper and lower plates (101,103), an articulation element (102) and optional intermediate members (804,805). The articulation element has a plurality of interposed, concentric ring shaped segments (202) separated by one or more spaces (201) and one or more bridging elements (203) connecting the interposed segments. A first portion of the articulation element, preferably an innermost segment, is preferably fixedly connected to the upper plate while a second portion of the articulation element, preferably the outermost segment, is preferably connected to the lower plate to permit relative movement of the endplates by elastic deflection or flexing of the articulation element without opposed surfaces rubbing against each other.

摘要: An intervertebral implant for mounting between superior and inferior vertebrae includes first and second endplates and an inlay. The first endplate has a first vertebra engagement surface and a first inner surface. The first vertebra engagement surface is mounted to the superior vertebra in an implant positions. The second endplate has a second vertebra engagement surface and a second inner surface. The second vertebra engagement surface is mounted to the inferior vertebra in the implanted position. The inlay is mounted to and between the first and second inner surfaces in an assembled configuration. The inlay includes a first mounting plate, a second mounting plate, a first W-shaped spring and a second W-shaped spring. The first and second W-shaped springs are mounted between the first and second mounting plates. The first and second W-shaped springs have longitudinal axes that are generally parallel to the insertion axis.

摘要: A facet interference screw (10) for insertion between the facet joints of adjacent superior and inferior vertebrae includes an externally threaded shaft portion and a head. The facet interference screw is preferably split into first (20) and second (30) components, each including an outer, semicircular externally threaded surface (22, 32) so that when coupled together the semicircular externally threaded surfaces form the externally threaded shaft portion. The inner surfaces (24, 34) of the first and second components may include curved contacting surfaces so that when inserted, the first component is movable with respect to the second component. Alternatively, the screw may include a damping component (60a′) between the inner surfaces of the first and second components to facilitate damping of the first and second components with respect to one another. The damping component preferably also facilitates articulated motion of the first and second components.

摘要: The present invention relates to dynamic bone fixation elements and a surgical method to stabilize bone or bone fragments. The dynamic bone fixation elements preferably include a bone engaging component and a load carrier engaging component. The bone engaging component preferably includes a plurality of threads for engaging a patient's bone and a lumen. The load carrier engaging component preferably includes a head portion for engaging a load carrier (e.g., bone plate) and a shaft portion. The shaft portion preferably at least partially extends into the lumen. Preferably at least a portion of an outer surface of the shaft portion is spaced away from at least a portion of an inner surface of the lumen via a gap so that the head portion can move with respect to the bone engaging component. The distal end of the shaft portion is preferably coupled to the lumen.

摘要: An apparatus for treating a bone comprises an implant to be received within the bone, including a plurality of bores extending therethrough and a cavity formed therewithin, each of the bores being dimensioned to receive a bone fixation element and a plurality of inserts receivable in the cavity. Each insert includes an opening extending therethrough and configured to align with a corresponding bore. Each insert is movable between a resting configuration in which an opening width is smaller than a width of a bone fixation element inserted therethrough and a stressed configuration in which the opening width is expanded to a width greater than that of the bone fixation element in combination with a compression member movable into the cavity to apply a force moving the inserts from the resting configuration to the stressed configuration, withdrawal thereof reducing the force and permitting a return to the resting configuration.

摘要: An anchor-in-anchor fixation system is provided for securing underlying structure, such as bone. The fixation system includes a first bone anchor having a shaft for fixation to underlying bone, and a head that defines an internal bore. A second bone anchor extends through the bore and into underlying bone. A fixation assembly is also provided that includes one or more fixation systems coupled to an auxiliary attachment member configured for long bone fixation, spinal fixation, or fixation of other bones as desired.
