摘要: The present invention relates to polymeric compositions that are biodegradable and that can be melt processed into various forms, including films, fibers, and nonwovens. The compositions include compatible or semicompatible blends of biodegradable polymers and have physical and thermomechanical integrity. Films formed from preferred polymeric compositions are suitable for use as backsheets in disposable absorbent articles. In a preferred embodiment, the polymeric composition includes a polyhydroxyalkanoate and at least one other biodegradable polymer selected from aliphatic polyester-based polyurethanes, a polylactide, polycaprolactone, or a mixture of two or more of these polymers. Where the second polymer is polycaprolactone, the composition preferably also includes a third polymer for enhancing the melt processability of the composition.

摘要: The strength of lignocellulosic materials is improved by treating them with water-soluble strengthening agents containing sulfonic units, and rendering these agents water-insoluble by reacting them with compounds containing epoxide rings and quaternary ammonium groups. Thus, a substantial reduction or elimination of the bleeding of said strengthening agents from the lignocellulosic materials when touched with wet hands or contacted under humid conditions is achieved.

摘要: A method of surface treating particulate materials with electromagnetic radiation that is carried out with a so-called roll reactor comprising a rotating roll and an irradiation source. Radical former molecules can be applied on the surface of superabsorbent polymer particles, which are fed onto the surface of the roll and irradiated while moved with the rotating roll. The irradiation source is provided such that the radiation is able to reach at least part of the particulate material that has been fed onto the surface of the roll.

摘要: The present invention provides a process comprising the steps of (a) applying less than about 0.1 grams per square meter (gsm) of a release agent to a transfer surface, wherein the release agent is selected such that a test sample of the release agent having a concentration at or above its critical surface tension concentration, has a surface tension of less than about 50 dyne/cm or forms a contact angle with the material of the transfer surface of less than about 120°; (b) applying an adhesive to the transfer surface; and (c) transferring the adhesive from the transfer surface to a material web. Preferred embodiments are provided where the transfer surface is metals, polymers, elastomers, ceramics, wood, or combinations thereof and the release agent has the formula: X—CF2O—(C2F4O)p—(CF2O)q—CF2—X. Additional embodiments are provided to continuous and intermittent processes.
