    摘要: A bio-based polyethylene terephthalate polymer comprising from about 25 to about 75 weight percent of a terephthalate component and from about 20 to about 50 weight percent of a diol component, wherein at least about one weight percent of at least one of the terephthalate and/or the diol component is derived from at least one bio-based material. A method of producing a bio-based polyethylene terephthalate polymer comprising obtaining a diol component comprising ethylene glycol, obtaining a terephthalate component comprising terephthalic acid, wherein at least one of the diol component and/or the diol component is derived from at least one bio-based material, and reacting the diol component and the terephthalate component to form a bio-based polyethylene terephthalate polymer comprising from about 25 to about 75 weight percent of the terephthalate component and from about 20 to about 50 weight percent of the diol component.

The methods may include the steps of providing an article comprising polylactic acid; supporting the article using a carrier support system; and curing the article with heat. The step of curing the article is effective to improve one or more properties of the article. Articles comprising polylactic acid also are provided having improved properties. Methods also are provided for preparing a beverage including the steps of providing a pod comprising polylactic acid, wherein the pod has been cured with heat while being supported by a carrier support system; placing a beverage material in the pod; placing a hot liquid into the pod; brewing the beverage material and hot liquid in the pod to create a beverage; and removing the beverage from the pod.

    摘要: There is disclosed a process for reducing the amount of acetaldehyde generated when polyethylene terephthalate (PET) chip is subjected to high temperatures in order to render the PET chip suitable for making food containers, particularly beverage bottles. This process comprises the addition of primary and secondary antioxidants either prior to or after the PET polycondensation reaction in order to reduce the amount of regenerated acetaldehyde produced by the polymer. The polyethylene terephthalate produced by this process reduces regenerated acetaldehyde by at least 25% in comparison to control resin produced without antioxidants, while maintaining suitable color for use as clear glass replacement. There is also disclosed a process for molding a PET preform wherein the polymer prepared as described above is melted, formed into the desired preform shape, and solidified by cooling. This preform can then be reheated above its glass transition temperature and molded into the desired container shape.
