A method of uniformly draining liquid from a patterned surface using a flow cell is provided. The method may be employed in a variety of applications, including in chemical array fabrication. In an exemplary embodiment, the invention provides an apparatus for fabricating a chemical array that employs a flow cell. Methods of fabricating a chemical array that employ the subject apparatus and drainage methods are also provided. Also provided are the arrays produced using the subject methods, as well as methods for using those arrays.

Three conductive pin arrays are disposed in a housing defined by sidewalls and a screen adjacent the photoreceptor. There can be provided insulative walls between adjacent pin arrays. The screen and a surface of the housing can be curved to correspond to a curvature of the photoreceptor.

An improved method and apparatus are disclosed for isolating product gas from compressor operating fluid. A portion of a piston rod directly exposed to the compressor's operating fluid (the oily portion of the piston rod) is atmospherically isolated from the remaining portion of the piston rod by providing the piston rod with a collar that separates the oily portion of the piston rod from the remainder of the piston rod. A first and a second flexible membrane are coupled to the collar to form a first isolation region, and a second isolation region; the first isolation region encases the oily portion of the piston rod and atmospherically isolates it from the second isolation region, and the second isolation region provides additional isolation from both the operating fluid and the ambient environment. A higher pressure is maintained along the backside of the piston that compresses the product gas than the pressure within the adjacent isolation region. Pairs of wipers with vents coupled therebetween additionally may be employed to further improve product gas isolation.

Embodiments of the subject array assay devices include (1) a base, (2) a cover, and (3) a clamping member for holding the cover to the base, wherein when the cover is operatively held to the base about a structure that includes an array assembly spaced-apart from a backing element, the array assembly and the backing element are deflected to substantially the same curvature. Embodiments of the subject methods include contacting a sample with a backing element and placing the backing element supported sample in contact with an array assembly to form a structure that includes the backing element and array assembly. The structure is then held together using a subject array assay device and the array substrate and the backing element are deflected to substantially the same curvature.

A valve system is provided for operatively coupling a high pressure source to a processing chamber that selectively cycles between high pressure and vacuum. The valve system includes a branch passageway that selectively communicates a source of intermediate pressure to a main passageway that couples the high pressure source to the processing chamber. The source of intermediate pressure may comprise a vent, a pump, or a source of pressurized fluid, etc. An inventive valve for sealing between the intermediate pressure and the vacuum pressure is also provided. The inlet of the valve is operatively coupled to the high pressure source (via one or more valves) and the outlet of the valve is operatively coupled to the processing chamber (via one or more valves). The valve stem is in continuous fluid contact with the inlet and is configured for high pressure sealing, and the outlet is configured for low pressure sealing and preferably comprises a resilient sealing member.

The residual toner damming assembly includes (a) a sealing member for locating against the moving toner image carrying surface upstream of the cleaning blade relative to movement of the moving toner image carrying surface and (b) a damming device located against the sealing member and projecting in a residual toner capturing angle relative to the moving toner image carrying surface for capturing and accumulating a desired quantity of residual toner particles against the moving toner image carrying surface, thereby increasing a number of residual toner particles reaching and lubricating the cleaning edge of cleaning blade against the image carrying surface.
