摘要： A self-assembled monolayer (SAM) is fabricated using either a semi-fluorinated sulphur containing compound, or a sem-fluorinated silane derivative and compressed carbon dioxide (CO2) as the solvent medium. The temperature and/or pressure of the compressed CO2 may be varied during the fabrication process to improve the molecular packing density of the monolayer.By using compressed CO2 as the solvent medium, monolayers with good molecular packing density can be fabricated relatively quickly without the use of environmentally unfriendly solvents.

This method is particularly suitable for the patterned deposition of polymers and small organic molecules in organic light emitting diodes and organic transistors.

During the test, the rotating machine part or the rotor is surrounded at least partially by a closed heating cell, a cooling medium flows around and/or flows through the rotating machine part or the rotor in the heating cell, and the heating of the rotating machine part or of the rotor takes place essentially due to the flow-dynamic losses arising from the interaction of the rotating machine part or of the rotor with the circulating cooling medium.

摘要： A machine requiring periodic maintenance, such as a vending machine, is retrofitted to include an alert system for notifying a machine operator that the machine requires servicing. The alert system includes one or more sensors to detect default conditions, a voice recorder for storing one or more voice messages corresponding to default conditions, a transmitter for transmitting the voice messages to the machine operator, and a trigger connected to the one or more sensors and the transmitter for selectively initiating the transmission of appropriate voice messages in accordance with predetermined parameters. The voice messages are transmitted over the public switched telephone network (PSTN) to be heard by the machine operator or stored on the machine operator's voice answering system. The transmitter may be a simple auto dialer connected by wires to a nearby phone jack. However, in a preferred embodiment, the transmitter is constructed in similar manner to the transmitter of a cordless telephone in which the monitored machine includes a short range transmitter operating at 900 MHz or 2200 MHz for transmitting a voice message to a corresponding receiver connected to a nearby phone jack. The voice message is then transmitted over the PSTN to the machine operator. The alert system of the present invention may also include a clock connected to the trigger for causing the voice messages to be transmitted only a predetermined times of the day.

摘要： A semiconductive conjugated copolymer comprises at least two chemically different monomer units which, when existing in their individual homopolymer forms, have different semiconductor bandgaps. The proportion of said at least two chemically different monomer units in the copolymer is selected to control the semiconductor bandgap of the copolymer so as to control the optical properties of the copolymer. The copolymer is formed in a manner enabling it to be laid down as a film without substantially affecting the luminescent characteristics of the copolymer and is stable at operational temperature.The semiconductor bandgap may be spatially modulated so as to increase the quantum efficiency of the copolymer when excited to luminesce, to select the wavelength of radiation emitted during luminescence or to select the refractive index of the copolymer.
