摘要: A conventional respiratory nebulizer has an emergency medication dose storage system delivering the stored medication dose directly to the nebulizing chamber with a single impulse of force to a simple mechanical delivery system, thereby making the nebulizer useable in two steps: (a) opening the medication capsule with a simple opening action; and (b) inhaling the nebulized medication. The delivery system includes a plunger assembly having a pair of converging blades coming to a point for piercing a medication capsule held within a docking chamber adjacent to a nebulizing mixing chamber and a hollow needle connected to an air power source directing air through said needle, to force liquid medication from said pierced medication capsule into said nebulizing mixing chamber of said nebulizer.

The nebulizer can be operated without disassembling the nebulizer housing so as to expose the nebulizing chamber and without manually opening the liquid medication container and, without spillage and without manual pouring of the to liquid medication directly into the nebulizing chamber, and without reassembling the nebulizer housing before positioning the inhaler mouthpiece in the mouth so as to inhale the nebulized medication. The delivery system includes a slicing blade to sever the capsule and a looped paddle follower to move the severed portion out of the way of fluid flow.

摘要: A method of treating a disorder in a patient is provided. The method comprises delivering a stimulation lead within a blood vessel, intralumenally puncturing a wall of the blood vessel to create an exit point, and then introducing the stimulation lead through the exit point into direct contact with tissue the stimulation of which treats the disorder. Optionally, the method comprises implanting a source of stimulation within the patient's body, and then electrically coupling the proximal end of the stimulation lead to the implanted stimulation source. Using the stimulation lead, the tissue can then be stimulated in order to treat the disorder.

摘要: Medical devices and methods of treatment using medical devices, and more particularly, methods of treating a treatment site in a blood vessel and devices or apparatuses for use therewith. In some embodiments, a method and apparatus for treating a treatment site in a blood vessel using fluid movement or agitation adjacent the treatment site is disclosed. In some embodiments, an apparatus is provided including one or more deployable structures adapted to create fluid movement within the vessel. The apparatus is inserted into the vessel, and the deployable structure is positioned adjacent the treatment site. The deployable structure is used to create fluid movement adjacent to the treatment site. In some embodiments, a treatment material, such as a medicine or drug, is introduced into the vessel proximate the treatment site, and the deployable structure is used to create fluid movement or agitation adjacent the treatment site to create a better interface between the treatment site and the medicine, or to move the medicine into the treatment site. In some embodiments, the fluid movement created by the deployable member aids in removal of tissue or other material from the treatment site.

摘要: A catheter adapted to perform electrophysiological procedures comprises a body member, a manipulation handle attached to the proximal end of the body member for applying torque to the body member, the handle having a control knob adapted for control movements in a first plane and in a second plane simultaneously. A deflection control line is attached at its distal end to the distal portion of the catheter and its proximal end attached to the control device of the handle so that tension applied to the control line by sliding the control knob causes deflection of the distal portion of the catheter. A stiffening member is disposed within the body member of the catheter and is slidable, said stiffening member providing increased rigidity to the portion of the body member in which the stiffening member is located. Rotation of the control knob controls the position of the stiffening member in the body member. In a further aspect, a stiffening member in accordance with one embodiment includes a tapered distal end section with a ball formed on the distal tip, the tapered section terminating at the ball. In accordance with another aspect, the torsional rigidity of the catheter body is increased by use of a layer of aramid fibers mixed with an epoxy. In yet another feature, the handle and rotatable sliding element are symmetrically shaped to facilitate complete single-handed operation of the handle by the physician of all position control aspects of the catheter.
