Fluorinated olefinic monomers, optionally in association with non-fluorinated olefins, are (co)polymerized in aqueous emulsion in the presence of a hydrophilic solvent and of a fluoropolyoxyalkylene having hydrogenated end groups and/or hydrogenated repetitive units. In this way it is possible to obtain high productivities, close to those obtainable using a hydrophilic solvent and a chlorofluorocarbon.

Ternary mixtures, particularly suitable for removing oily substances having both an hyrogenated and fluorinated or mixed basis, essentially consisting of: (a) water; (b) terbutanol; (c) a fluoropolyoxyalkylene having hydrogenated end groups and/or hydrogenated repetitive units. Such mixtures have high flash point, are non toxic and with null depleting potential of the ozone and show a ternary diagram characterized by a wide monophasic zone, wherein the three components form limpid and stable solutions.

In a process of (co)polymerization in aqueous emulsion of fluorinated olefinic monomers it is added to the reaction medium a microemulsion of fluoropolyoxyalkylenes having hydrogenated end groups and/or hydrogenated repetitive units. A remarkable reduction in the reaction induction period is so obtained, with formation of a product with improved mechanical properties and higher thermal and chemical resistance.

The invention pertains to a thermoplastic VDF polymer composition comprising: at least one thermoplastic vinylidene fluoride (VDF) polymer comprising at least 85% by moles of recurring units derived from VDF; and at least one ethylene/chlorotrifluoroethylene (ECTFE) polymer, wherein said ECTFE polymer possesses a melting point of less than 210° C. and it is comprised in an amount of from 0.1 to 20% wt with respect to the total weight of VDF polymer and ECTFE polymer. The invention also pertains to a process for making the VDF polymer and to the uses thereof for manufacturing films, in particular transparent films.
