Abstract:
The vulcanizing of elastomeric articles by captively securing the article to be cured under pressure by a mold that is transparent to microwave energy. The mold in the preferred embodiment is a pair of conveying runs which define cooperatively a mold cavity therebetween. The microwave transmitting devices are located along the path of movement of such conveying runs.
Abstract:
A process for making an elastomeric compound that has chopped fibers dispersed throughout the compound with orientation of the chopped fibers to increase the modulus and strength of the compound by milling the fiber loaded compound to break up the fibers and thereafter mold and then vulcanize the resulting product.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for forming and dispensing a liquid coating material formulation or solution containing a nitrocellulose liquid coating composition and a supercritical fluid as a fluid diluent includes structure for combining the two components within a circuitous flow path or loop to form the coating material solution or formulation, while ensuring that the dissolved solids within the liquid coating composition do not precipitate and clog the supply of fluid diluent into the loop.
Abstract:
A puncture sealing tire has an inner layer consisting of closed cell cellular rubber, in direct contact with the inflation gas. The inner layer is preferably coated with a solid fluent material capable of flowing into punctures at operating temperatures.
Abstract:
A tire designed for operation both as a pneumatic tire under ordinary conditions, and also without inflation under emergency conditions, has thick sidewalls made of low-hysteresis high-modulus vulcanized natural rubber composition containing reinforcing carbon black and also containing an effective anti-oxidant, together with a cobalt soap to prevent reduction in modulus during service of the tire.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for spraying adhesive compositions having a high solids content comprises a source of supercritical fluid diluent such as supercritical carbon dioxide, a source of virgin adhesive, an adhesive dispenser and a mixer communicating with each source of material and with the dispenser. The mixer includes a dynamic mixing element which agitates the viscous adhesive material allowing the supercritical carbon dioxide to be effectively dispersed into the adhesive, thus forming an adhesive composition with a high solids content having a relatively low viscosity suitable for spray application of the adhesive.
Abstract:
A mixture of an amine-terminated liquid polymer and a non-cycloaliphatic epoxy resin cures rapidly at ambient temperatures under water while displacing water from substrate surfaces and bonding strongly thereto. The mixture comprises (A) 1 equivalent of at least one non-cycloaliphatic epoxy resin, (B) from about 0.01 to about 1.5 equivalents of at least one amine-terminated liquid polymer having a carbon-carbon backbone, (C) optionally, a chain extender or crosslinker, (D) optionally, a curing agent, and (E) optionally, other compounding ingredients. The mixture is useful as an underwater repair putty, adhesive, coating or the like.
Abstract:
An internal tire lubricant which minimizes or prevents injury to a pneumatic tire when it runs flat, and which also assists in sealing small punctures, consists of a mixture of liquid or easily fusible materials, one of which is a partially crystalline solid olefine polymer, and another of which is an essentially noncrystalline liquid or solid hydrocarbon or analogous material.
Abstract:
A plurality of unconventional negative tribo-charging materials are described for use as the powder contact surfaces in tribocharging and corona powder spray guns, gun components, and powder delivery system components. The invention also provides a short barrel tribo-charging powder spray gun having an interchangeable powder contact insert and nozzle, with turbulence inducing air jets. The invention further provides novel tribocharging and corona gun designs. Improved powder coating systems are made possible wherein, for example, negative tribo guns can be utilized with negative corona guns to coat different parts of the same workpiece in a powder coating system.
Abstract:
An apparatus for dispensing a small amount of a viscous liquid material onto a substrate, the apparatus comprising a housing and piston positioned within the housing and having a lower surface and a flow bore extending therein, the flow bore having an inlet for receiving the viscous liquid material and an outlet. The apparatus further includes a compressible dispensing element positioned within the housing below and in liquid tight sealing engagement with the lower surface of the piston and having a passage extending therethrough, the passage having an inlet in liquid communication with the outlet of the flow bore and an outlet. The lower surface of the piston is capable of applying a force to compress the dispensing element causing the passage to at least partially close expelling a small amount of the viscous liquid material from the outlet of the passage. The apparatus has a nozzle in liquid communication with the outlet of the passage for guiding the small amount of viscous liquid material expelled from the outlet of the passage onto the substrate.
